Also that's granted they are but unless it's written into law they must be modified to disabled access and kept of x routes then it's not gonna happen

Also I know it's in law but commercially viable and in law

That's an interesting path, has a 142 ever been through oxenholme and Penrith before?

I guess a lack of suitable paths is the reason why they are not going up the Cumbrian coast instead.

I can't remember where I read / heard about it, but I'm referring to remanufactured / "non-genuine" spares. What exactly I don't know... Since @ed1971 has mentioned the different from original specification mechanical parts, I think the ones that supposedly have recently gone out of production may have something to do with wheelsets, though if they were all replaced with modern ones in 2014 then I'm not sure why that would be a problem...

They might have been, one of the ones that left was 89 that was supposed to be at newton Heath. I saw it on it’s second to last passenger service

I've got 142089 down as a Newton Heath stored unit, is this at NH still or has it since moved to Heaton by the way of Empty Coaching Stock?

Not sure if they're still there, but the 142s were parked on the right hand wide (as you leave Piccadilly) right at the far end of the platform line where the 323s stable overnight.

I remember a lot of the first generation DMUs very well, mainly 101s, 104s, 108s and the various suburban types.
During the past 31 years, I have travelled on 142s much more than any other rolling stock. I wouldn't be able to hazard a guess how many miles I have accumulated on them, but I can say that I enjoyed every one of those miles. I like to sit on the end bench seats on a hot summer's day and feel the breeze through the doors and watch the passing countryside go by. It is fair to say that if there had been a bigger fleet of 150s instead of Pacers, I would have travelled by train much less often in those 31 years.

So, what's the situation with 142042 and 142049 that apparently moved to Wales for TfW for "spare parts"...?
