Practically you are going to have stay in the house for long periods and probably for the majority of day. That is the reality of the guidelines.

We all know that so why pretend otherwise?

OK everyone who knows the rules - hotel bar/restaurant; open to paying guests? If not, how will they get fed and drinkied? Whilst most hotels will be closing down or handing over to the NHS< many will be open for essential use - and on saying that this morning the Avanti arrival @ Blackpool had a few obvious holidaymakers on board, if pulling suitcases along is anything to go by.

Read on another forum that people are thinking of buying up hotel rooms over weekends in order to all be together for socialising. Which kind of defeats the object?

It is clear you are one of the people who know best. Just do what you are told in order to help everyone. The rules are clear. Follow them.

He's correct as to what the rules are. You are allowed, and encouraged, to go out for solo physical activity in non-crowded places. All day if you want. With due effort to not coming within 2m of a person you don't live with.

'Tis the season for the ice-cream vans to emerge from winter hibernation. Therefore causing a congregation of children around them. Are they to be banned? Or will the wise guys realise that they could be delivering basic goods to adults (milk, bread) as a side line?

Train to the Lakes when it gets nice - or the Forest of Bowland. Grab some tins for the return trip. Stations like Windermere could well be overflowing, especially those waiting for a train to return, which is the fly in the ointment. Queue outside at distance??

This might well seem a stupid question and answered elsewhere; if we could isolate those at risk, and the virus naturally spread around the rest of us and we had mild to severe (but not fatal) symptoms, would we become immune to it and the virus naturally eradicate itself as it loses hosts? Or could it just become stronger and be a danger to even the most healthy?

We don’t know yet, the immune system reacts differently to different viruses.

Sometimes we produce a long lasting what’s known as “neutralising” antibody, that prevents the virus doing what it needs to do. Hepatitis B is a good example of this, we recover from the illness by producing long lasting antibody, we can vaccinate those at risk like healthcare workers and you can even donate blood after recovery.

In response to some other viruses the immunity declines quickly or our immune system develops ineffective antibodies, we don’t really understand why. Unfortunately coronavirus and rhinovirus that routinely cause common cold type symptoms seem to fall into this category.

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-00798-8

The push to make a coronavirus vaccine is moving at breakneck speed. This week, the first of a few dozen healthy volunteers in Seattle, Washington, received a vaccine in a phase 1 safety trial sponsored by the US government. Similar safety trials of other coronavirus vaccines will also begin soon.

Even as these ‘first in human’ trials get going, key questions about how our immune system fights off the virus — and how to safely trigger a similar immune response with a vaccine — remain unanswered. Answers might come soon from studies of infected people and animal models, but some researchers say that the lack of information should not keep experts from beginning safety trials in people. Others worry that if vaccine candidates released on an accelerated schedule turn out to be ineffective or, worse, unsafe, it could send researchers back to the drawing board and end up delaying the development and wide-scale roll-out of an effective vaccine.

What rules? Please show me the rules that say my wife & I can't go for a walk along the river? I shall await with baited breath....

Goodness me. You can go for a walk. You can go with your wife as long as she stays 2ms away.

The practical effect of these rules is, as I am sure you are well aware, is that people will have to stay at home.

This is really quite silly.

Public transport is discouraged. Go by car to somewhere you know will be quiet in your local area, or just from home.

Let's be honest: you are going to spend most of the day in the house. That's fairly obvious even allowing for excercise and fresh air.

Practically, yes, this will happen by default. But that's not the same as you claiming it is the rule - it isn't.

In fact until Monday the Government actually doesn't have the powers to enforce any of it! Unlike most countries (and quite rightly) the UK does not have the concept of executive decrees.

There is no point social distancing from someone you live with. It's easier to assume you've both got it, because you will have if one has. Hence the newer quarantine advice.

Agreed - I was being deliberately obtuse just as many here seem to be with really quite obvious advice and instruction

No. The Government does not want an obesity crisis to add to this, so if people don't move for 3 months and just sit eating cake (as many are doing) they will have a big problem.

Outdoor exercise in your local area on foot is important.

Fine. I can't be bothered with arguing. I hope people are sensible about this situation but looking at the pedantic and childish nature of many here I have little hope.

No, what is silly is making up your own rules & then lamenting others for not adhering to them. 2 metres away from my wife? Get a grip man!

It is. Even if just for a change of scene. Although the cake sounds nice. Can you pop some over?

Practically even allowing for some excercise you are staying at home for most of the day.

You cant even go to the Winchester and ride it out!

Had an email from Premier Inn. Hotel open, all bars / restaurants closed. Bring your own food in. Prepaid meal packages to be refunded.

So you're basically saying if you don't have a car (can't afford one, or can't drive by choice/unable to drive) you're restricted to your local area. Have you visited some areas - they make Baghdad look like Blackpool pleasure beach!

Goodness me. You can go for a walk. You can go with your wife as long as she stays 2ms away.

I think two milliseconds is far to close for men to be by some partners!

I'm Not married thankfully but if I was that would be a blessing! Although for blokes stuck at home, this has made their home life worse (Stuck at home with their wives/offspring, no pleasures such as pubs or gyms etc. Theoretically no nookie as one would have to distance by at least 2m!)

Which bit of 'avoid non-essential journeys on public transport' does this match up with?

Whatever. It is clear you and others know best. Dont infect anyone I care about please. Is that acceptable?

Oh dear goodness, who the heck am I going to infect walking along the Aire, or dare I say it going to the shop to buy stuff to eat? I'm sorry to say this because I actually do respect you, but right now you are being a little bit hysterical. For your information I am working from home, I am choosing to go to the local Co-op rather than large supermarkets, and even though neither my wife or I drive we are restricting our use of public transport, which by the way is not easy when you live in a hilly area such as this.

But I will not sit in the house for an indefinite period, I will go out for walks in the quiet areas around me, and if you don't like it I'm sorry. Me staying inside will only result in civil unrest... ;)

The "to save my mental health" bit as I'm alone and not getting any younger.
Dance around with definitions as much as you like.
I know you shouldn't make that journey. You know you shouldn't make that journey. I can't stop you.

And it's no wonder with statements like that people who parrot them would be staunch supporters of tin pot dictators.

We're not in lockdown, we haven't got someone like Chairman Mao or Adolf Hitler in charge. There is a such thing of freedom of speech and human rights.
Get over yourself - you are putting lives at risk by thinking the rules dont apply to you. You are going to cause others to die. I hope you realise that.
