Was on a Gloucester-Cardiff service today, loadings very low in both directions. Easily got a table seat to myself without causing a problem for family groups and this was on a two car unit.
2202 from MCO to BOL on Saturday night extremely busy, no social distancing possible, many stood in vestubules and down aisles. Entire rear carriage reserved for conductor and other Northern staff. Looks like 10pm is the new rush hour.
The 0926, 1326, 1726 and 1926 from Cleethorpes are not currently running but all were until recently. A new departure from Cleethorpes at 2309 was introduced too but seems to have vanished.29/09/20 - two very short journeys:
17:42 Grimsby Town to Cleethorpes - only a handful of people on the 15:18 6-car service from Manchester. Annoyingly there is no 19:26 return so waited (mostly in Wetherspoon!) for the 20:26 3-car back, which had maybe ten on board maximum. To be fair I don't think Cleethorpes was hourly in the evening even pre-COVID - there were and are a few gaps. The "effective" 19:26 I believe starts at Doncaster at 20:40, and the 20:26 is only booked 3-car, COVID or no COVID. There is a 21:26 6-car but it only runs as far as Sheffield: again I think this is the case regardless of COVID as it positions units in Sheffield for the stupidly early service to Manchester Airport.

PS I wouldn't have got a seat on that 17.22 off Salford Crescent pre-covid as it would have been rammed leaving Vic, at least as far as Atherton.
I think that was the policy before 1m+ distancing. Now it's one household per double seat (and supposed to be a zig-zag formation). As an aside, my bus home from the station has a notice on the door saying "please leave an empty row behind and in front of you".

About 20% full, messages on the screens telling us we're all very naughty for using the service as it's for "essential travel only".
Meanwhile Go North East are opting for "we're encouraging safe journeys". Guess which mode has more passengers?
I think a lot of day trippers could of been put of by the weather. I was in York yesterday afternoon and it was much quieter than a normal Saturday. The North East is technically "essential travel only" again. Though, I don't think it's being paid much attention. Certainly, what remains of the hospitality industry in the region would be on its knees.
Indeed, the GNE posters are designed to reflect that advice, basically saying that they wish to encourage sensible travel so long as you wear a face covering and keep your distance where possible.
Keeping on topic, yesterday's observations:
1734 TPE from Scarborough to York (3*185) was about 20% full in the rear carriage. Seemed to about 30 or so on the platform at Scarborough with about 40 getting off at York where the service terminated.
1921 TPE from York to Newcastle (5*802). Only four others in Coach A and one other by the time I arrived at Newcastle. No carriage was more than 15% full.
Was at Fratton earlier today. The trains to and from Southampton seemed to be back to pre-Covid loadings despite being only up to 4 cars long, yet the services to London were made up of 12 car trains and hardly anyone was on them! I can safely say that GWR are long overdue lengthier trains on their Portsmouth route.
