2K48 1835 Liverpool Ctl - Kirkby operated by 507006 / 507021 which were the units involved.

Driver reports he is ok, just shaken up. No reported injuries at present regarding passengers on board.

Indeed. I was brought up in Kirkby and can just about remember when Merseyrail started in 1977. Lucky, it appears no injuries; however, had it been a “normal” Saturday then that train from Liverpool Central would have been packed.

No injuries apparently. My friends husband is a Kirkby fireman and is at the scene.

Looks like its gone through the buffers a good carriage length. Any TPWS loops fitted there?

Glad there are no injuries.

507006 is the unit off the rails unfortunately. Safe to say it's finished.

Seems to have taken out a good chunk of the concrete walkway with it. Lucky no passengers were (presumably) on the walkway at the time.

Unfortunately so, I guess that'll be Newport bound sooner rather than later. I'm pleased to hear that there's no injuries, must have been a bit of a fright for the unfortunate driver!

I'm surprised the RailUK Accident Investigation Branch haven't solved what caused this yet considering we've had details of it for almost half an hour!

Depending on the extent of the damage, it may not be particularly rail worthy and unlikely to go to Newport. Road removal to some other scrapyard seems more likely

That's almost certainly a write off, it'll be heading to the scrap yard like 110 and 134.
