It starts from Crewe on Friday 02 April
1Z30 1015 Crewe - Carmarthen
Timing load is 715 tonnes, 60 mph, so this might be steam hauled as well. (It would make sense as 45231 is currently at Crewe).

Looks like their is a switch from steam to diesel at Gloucester looking at the working to and from Crewe.
Correct, it is expected to be 45231 from Carmarthen to Gloucester. Then a switch to presumably LSL's D6817 and D6851 which then continues to Bristol then onwards to Penzance. This trip is down to crew training reasons, as a sleeper car will be on the rake to allow the staff to stay overnight.

At the moment it seems 45231 should haul the stock to Carmarthen ready for the trip to the South West. Adding onto this, it is expected a swap will take place at Bristol TM for 40145. Which will then continue onwards on 1Z36 to Euston.

As far as I can see, no travel between Wales and England (and vice versa) is currently allowed - it's stopping me crossing the border next week - so how is this trip taking place?

The trip is down to crew training, the formation will have a sleeper car to allow the staff to accommodate overnight.

Under the current Welsh rules, it seems that you can travel to Wales for 'work' purposes as it cannot be done from home.

So it seems that it isn't breaking any regulations what have been put in place.

Although this does raise some questions, is this really essential with a fully stocked bar and a lounge which you can have a three course meal in.

Although it does give the DSR (Dartmouth Steam Railway) some practise on operations, as they are currently closed.

The first railtour what comes into the South West is on the 3rd of May, with a Peterborough to Kingswear operated by LSL.

So it does make sense, as the drivers haven't operated in the SW since September. Which means they do need a refresh before anything can run.

I will be travelling from Yate to Gloucester to see this tomorrow, the above comment from father_jack concerns me though. Is 45231 out of action then?
Report of a bad wheel flat with little option for movement even to clear the line (which I find a bit hard to believe). Situation compounded by a northbound Heart of Wales service terminating at Llandeilo after a near miss with trespassers.

From a personal point of view a single 20 eastbound with the full consist would be a brilliant sight but I reckon the booked 37 forward will be sent west to Carmarthen.

The 1434 Swansea to Shrewsbury had to make an emergency stop approaching Llandeilo as the driver was confronted by two trespassers in the 4 foot with their backs to him and was unfit to continue. I hope he recovers soon from the experience and suffers no lasting effect. The last I heard was that 45231 was being shunted into a siding and arrangements being made and to authorise 20107 to work forward at approx 1930

Reported on WNXX (subscription) that 45231 has been declared a failure and a pair of 37s are on their way to Gloucester, subject to revision of course

D6817 and D6851 are currently on 0Z37 1845 Crewe HS to Pengam Sidings, heading to rescue 1Z30 (45231 developed a wheel flat this afternoon). They should swap out 20107, and continue forward for tomorrows trip to Bristol.

One would hope the idiots concerned can/will be identified and prosecuted by the BTP in due course.

As above, hopefully the driver is doing ok.

Seems to be cancelled .
From what I have gathered this morning, it seems that 37667 and 37668 worked down last night on 0Z37. Looks like it will be a 14:XX departure from Carmarthen (due to crew rest), so a new path should come up soon.

My mistake, as I was editing the top post for all the workings - I had it copied in my clipboard so it just multiplied the amount of mistakes made. Thanks for putting me right though:)
