Micheldever and Northallerton are a couple that came to mind.
I would not put Northallerton in the lonely class. There is plenty of housing close by and it is not to far from the town centre. Thirsk, maybe.

I’ve worked 8 hour shifts at Leicester station and especially in the winter the platforms are a bit dark and dingy, strangely quiet (but that may just be the pandemic talking) and although the waiting rooms are a bit airy, I would think a refurbishment to a big scale would brighten the place up a bit.

Stockport is also up there for me

I agree with many of the stations mentioned WBQ and Retford low level come to mind for me. Back in the 70's and 80's it was embarrassing to admit that the train home through South East London had even called at St Johns!!, a very bland, unpleasant station to call at let alone to get off and walk through the immediate area.
I once changed off the Heart of Wales line at Craven Arms with some 50 mins connection for a service down to Newport and a connection home to Fareham, it was dark, cold and raining, and then like an Oasis in the desert about 100yards from the station I came across a Fish and Chip shop, which saved the day.
Perth at night can be a cold huge area, but on a sunny day is ok to hang around at.

Another one that doesn't count because of the 1tph restriction, but in my 47-bashing days of the 80s a semi-regular move was to take the S&C train from Leeds to Horton-in-Ribblesdale for the equivalent train back, dropping into 1E59 at Leeds which was was booked for a 47. Horton on a cold winters evening was not fun.

I waited at a very bleak Darnall station pre-lockdown, the entrance into the station is also not the most salubrious!

I've caught the train from Darnall, and it isn't the nicest station to wait. I wouldnt want to get off there at night either.

Not wishing to offend anyone from Castleford but I've had a couple of festers there and it wasn't too good, at night it's a bit bleak quietish and a bit of a shuffle round to the shopping street, the platforms are pretty bare and no immediate facilities

It’s had a bit of a makeover recently but still not somewhere you would want to hang around too long at night!

Dunbar on the ECML

My station at Hope is quite bleak.

Stopped at Needham as a driver many times.

Acton Mainline on the GWR.... Though this may change with the new entrance and hopefully more passengers in the future.

Hope is lovely . . until the sun goes in, it starts snowing . . and the two hourly stopper to Sheffield is cancelled.

If we're talking stations on the Sheffield Manchester stopper route surely Strines must count as the loneliest?

Portsmouth and Southsea followed closely by Portsmouth harbour. I wasn’t particularly fond of Plymouth either.
