Having not been on the GEML which seems like an age, it’s looking now like the 321’s (non-renatus) are becoming more and more sparse :frown: and I’ve seen at least 3 coupled renatus’s.
Most pairs are still mixed. Yesterday there was a pair of 322s too. I only saw two Renatus pairs, 321302+321305 and 321318+321329. However, the 720s all run solo now and cover much more off peak work so planning a days bashing on 321s is quite a bit harder.

Some disgarms will be double renatus because they either split or join at some point in the diagram. For example the following schedule 1N40
Don't forget that one or both units in such a pair can be 321/9 or 322. There's only eight but they seem to be everywhere.

It’s actually quite bizarre they do appear to be everywhere as you say. I managed four consecutive journeys on them (3x322 and 1x321/9) without even trying, I hadn’t been on them before but if anything the novelty had worn off by the fourth one (there’s only so much purple one can take!). In all but one instance they were coupled to non-PRM units so I could have got on one of those, however dragging my GF half way along a platform because “that one’s more original” didn’t seem like a good idea, especially as I’d already persuaded her to let a 720 go….

Makes sense to go for the non PRM units as they will be gone at the end of November whereas the Northern units will run into 2022. They're seriously going to have to ramp up class 720 deliveries. There's about 20 pairs of class 321s with a non PRM set. So they need 10 720s to replace 10 pairs and displace 10 Renatus to pair up with others. So basically they need an extra 720 per week. That assumes that passenger numbers don't increase. Pairs of 321s are often full on the Southend line so a solo 720 would be grim.

Anyone know what non-PRM units are out today please? I'm guessing 331 and 343 are still at Clacton...

343 should be showing as Clacton, not Southend - unless it is in service? It's been at Clacton every time I've visited

So just to prove how fluid and changeable the 321 situation is; both 343 and 331 were in service today (not together of course).

Just that, or into parcel units as well?

Edit: Never mind, just seen that the Breeze project is separate to the Parcels conversion although - isn't the Breeze conversion scheduled to be done at Alstom, Widnes though?

None are being taken out of service as such until the dispension ends at the end of the year
The dispensation runs until November 30th. Either there will be a gradual run down of the non PRM units over the next six weeks or there will be a lot of short trains on December 1st.

Like I've done in the 720 thread, here are the non-PRM 321s I have noted as still with GA and available for service. Jump in with corrections as always, this is to help others as well as me.

331/333/335-343/406/409/410/421/423/424/426/427/430/433/
434/436/440/441/447 - Total 26.

21 new units needed to replace 26 old ones in terms of cars, though obviously not in terms of seats.

If they're happy to replace pairs of 321s with a single 720 then only 13 are required. They would directly replace 13 non PRM sets and displace 13 Renatus units to replace the other 13 non PRM. Have any 321 diagrams switched to 720s recently?
