Yes and the answer is: not particularly ill; those who are ill are unvaccinated.Has anyone asked how ill are the people with this new variant ?

That's interesting. If it's proven that Omicron causes milder disease, should we all have Omicron parties to help it defeat Delta?
Joking aside...
If it causes milder disease and is a more fit virus, then it will happen naturally (and this would be really good news, especially in the longer term, even if it causes an increase in cases in the short term)
If it causes milder disease but has the same fitness, then in theory it would be beneficial to somehow assist it in pushing out delta, but there is probably no practical way to do that.
If it causes milder disease but is not as fit as delta then it will fizzle out and there is nothing we can do about it.
So far it seems the hype surrounding this variant appears to be based on misunderstandings about mutations rather than any real world evidence.
Also we shouldn't forget there was a lot of fear-mongering about Delta which proved to be largely unfounded.
