Hi all, I’m currently completing an application for a depot driver position and I’m looking for advice on answering a question regarding maintaining concentration.

I’ve found allot of information on the forum of how current drivers maintain concentration in the role but I need to give a scenario of when and more importantly how I’ve done it before.

I’m having abit of a brain fart and really struggling with it! Any examples?

So you asking for people to give examples of how you personally have been able to maintain concentration?

You really need to think of your own.
Take your time and have a good think and use the info available on here already.

If you need someone to answer it for you then it’s probably a sign that the job isn’t for you.

But feel free to also ask for examples of when other people have gone the extra mile or when they've had to take charge of a pressurised situation in case those questions comes up as well!

Ultimately, we cannot help you with this. This is your own example.

Rack your brains and think of anything from your previous work or personal environment when something specific needed to be done for a period of time - perhaps with detailed instructions - and use the STAR method.

You can use anything, long motorway driving, maybe you have been a lifeguard, literally anything, once you start thinking through all your different jobs and roles in life you will find something appropriate.

Best example is to use driving long distance. Thats what I did. And just expand on what you done, how you prepared yourself and anything you done to mitigate the risks.

See if you can find examples from both your working life and your life outside of work. I know I failed the equivalent question on my CBI structured interview back in 2013 using my example as a security guard where I would look at CCTV screens for two hours at a time broken up by physical patrols of the building and maybe wandering to the nearby window in between to watch camera blind spots and to stop me from feeling dozy.

Obviously, there are things you can do (or not do) outside of work to ensure that you are not too tired for the shift, to minimise the risk of losing concentration, so lifestyle is an important factor.

Quite an interesting thread!
