Hi All
I have just started spotting again after 20 years of being out the game so please ignore my ignorance but can anyone tell me if there is a web site where I can find out when freight trains run?
Also is Crewe and Doncaster still worth doing an overnighter for spotting?

Freightmaster is by far the best source of info but it is subscription based so will cost you a few quid. You could try searching the various gen groups on yahoo if you don't want to pay out.

Not heard about doing overnighters at Donny for a while, not sure if they still allow you on the platforms after the last trains. USed to be able to do it at Carlisle a few years back but some eejit wrote in complaining that the toilets were locked at there was nowhere to get a cup of tea in the ealry morning, so Virgin stopped allowing people onto the station after a certain time.

After a lot of complaints I believe overnight stays are now allowed ar Carlisle again.

You can buy individual copies of the Freightmaster book rather than take out a subscription to the online version. Obviously it goes out of date sooner but is a good general guide. The book is published quarterly and costs around £14.

Donny is certainly good in the daytime normally - and is one of the most popular spotting places, always quite a crowd there in the week.

I will be launching a new freight timetable site in early March. There will be different subscriptions available but one comparable to Freightmaster will be about £60 a year and that will include many more locations.

Keep an eye on www.freightlocate.co.uk as there will be demo timetables up before we start properly.

Out of interest, what features would people look for in a freight timetable site that I may be able to incorporate in the final offering?

I'm afraid not!;)

I have a large following of loyal subscribers who have been subscribing
to Freightmaster for up to fifteen years and I am sure most of them
wouldn't dream of sending £60 to an unknown person who refuses to
provide his real name and address, which I understand is illegal for a
UK trader, and could get him into a lot of trouble with the Inland Revenue,
especially if he cannot provide adequate proof of income/expednditure.

I must stress that I'm not against a bit of healthy competition;
but in this instance, I think its a case of 'buyer beware'... :|

Whois shows no names for the .co.uk domain, but do they own the .com?? There are details for that one.

Firstly, we would like to apologise to anyone who feels misled about the domain whois. It has been updated now to reflect the correct status. You'll have to forgive us as we only took over the domain recently and, for information, we have no connection to 'freightlocate.com'

Secondly, we don't think anyone should part with their money before being shown the service and we hope that people will have a fair look at us before possibly deciding to choose us.

We would like to point out that our business does comply with all laws and financial rules applicable to us and we strongly dispute any suggestion to the contrary.

We will post back here when our service is ready to be viewed and we do hope that people will give us a fair crack of the whip.

In the mean time we still would like any suggestions or comments you may have about the new service so please get in touch.

Many thanks,

The FreightLocate Team

The whois has just been updated - still no names, but a holding address
in Truro, Cornwall where several other 'info' websites are also based, such
as check my area:
http://www.checkmyarea.com/HotLinks/about.html

...and check my file:
https://www.checkmyfile.com/contact.htm

Also on the whois:

Registered on: 28-Jun-2006
Hosted on IP : 83.222.232.116
Hosted in RU (Russian Federation)

So a site hosted in Russia, run by an unknown company,
and using a URL which has been dormant for five years
,
wants people to send them £60+

Any brave volunteers?????

They don't have to be brave. Just willing to potentially lose 60 big ones. I can't wait to see how this one plays out.

[andy@diogenes ~]$ whois 83.222.232.116
inetnum: 83.222.232.0 - 83.222.239.255
netname: UK-PNE-20090408
descr: Peer 1 Network Enterprises Limited
country: GB

However

[andy@diogenes ~]$ whois 83.222.0.0
inetnum: 83.222.0.0 - 83.222.1.255
netname: MASTERNAME
descr: MasterName

As far as we are aware its not illegal to run a business from a seperate premises, the simple matter is that FreightLocate is run by a group of people rather than an individual and we feel it best suited our business operation.

This is the second time that you have alluded to something that is not correct.

If you google 'IP lookup' and input our IP address '83.222.232.116' into the first five sites they all return the result that the IP address belongs to charlie.justhostme.co.uk and is located in the UK, some even go as far as pointing out Ilford, which is some way from the Russian Federation.

I can't deny we are an unknown company, we have just started!

I must ask you to stop trying to discredit us and please let this 'healthy competition' commence as you are coming across as someone who is very worried.

Given the number of concerns expressed not only here but elsewhere, and the fact that the 'whois' belongs to a business called 'Scan my post', we have asked Freightlocate to provide us with their full details by PM. The thread will remain locked until we have received a satisfactory reply.
