Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

HD01: 12225. 10325. 11323. 12454. 82226
HD02: 12219. 10328. 11324. 12447. 82229
HD03: 12217. 10312. 11325. 12446. 82216

The above are arranged as TSOE, RSB, FOD, TSO, DVT. TSODs 12304, 12315 and 12324 will be inserted at a future date to make them up to 6 vehicles per set, rearranged to the same formation as the ex-GC sets as listed below:

HD04: 12211. 12434. 12310. 10318. 11319. 82201
HD05: 12224. 12477. 12326. 10321. 11320. 82200
HD06: 12222. 12461. 12323. 10330 11321. 82227
HD07: 12210. 12452. 12316. 10301. 11322 82230

The above are arranged as TSOE, TSO, TSOD, RSB, FOD, DVT and were GC sets 1 - 4 respectively.

A spare set is to be made up of randomly selected ex-LNER vehicles, formed in the same way:

HD08: 12215. 12526. 12308. 10305. 11316. 82204

TSOE 12229, RSB 10307 and DVT 82206 were also purchased to be spare parts donor vehicles.

There is also a spare DVT - 82220.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned on here yet, but I passed Crewe TMD a few weeks back and saw one of the ex-GC sets. It’s now completely debranded including the removal of the orange stripe.

It has, That set has been like that for a few months so is probably buried quite a few pages back.
It is however supposed to be having a coach removed today ready for a test run out on Monday, 10:30ish path Crewe to Hereford. If it passes it should then enter the service pool ready to enable one of HD01-03 shipped off for sdo mods.

That is excellent news! Hopefully I may be able to see it. Will it come via Chester from crewe or via the Crewe to Shrewsbury line?

Should be that. Still not cleared via Whitchurch so no option but to follow the route via Chester.

Great thanks. Hopefully clearance work will be underway and complete soon enough. Any ideas on the loco it might be with?

Path has been cancelled for today. Any ideas when it will run now?

Yes, on paper they are all allocated to Holyhead.

Its mostly paperwork i believe but there are a couple of minor alterations to some platforms that need to happen, nothing particularly major.

It's really more honourific than anything - the sets are maintained at Canton and Crewe rather than Holyhead, and on internal systems they're allocated to Cardiff diagram numbers

Yes, on paper they are all allocated to Holyhead.

Its mostly paperwork i believe but there are a couple of minor alterations to some platforms that need to happen, nothing particularly major.
Allegedly the one time a set did go that way it picked up a few scrapes. It should be sorted by next month though ready for proving runs.

Also I noticed it was only 4 car, is the 5th being kept at Landore for now?

A photo online shows DVT 82227 so assume HD06?

5 car sets won't be entering service for a while as nobody has been trained on SDO yet so might as well send it up as a 4.

Oh no, did I miss it? Did it have the orange band removed like the Crewe set?

Especially as from December there will be other stations that are too short for a 4 car MKIV set that will be served, and not just the current twice a day Abergavenny calls. Nantwich, Whitchurch, Wem and Leominster are all too short in at least one if not both directions and all are booked to be served.

Out of curiosity what type of SDO will it be please? Will it be beacon-based, GPS-based, or a door forward/door in rear type release?

Also what's with the two guards currently needed?
