Morning Mouse. Yes you can travel down for free. Been a rather long time since I did my assessments, but from what I can believe, it’s normally always done in 2 parts with the computer testing and MMI done on the second stage with the DMI in between stages at home depot.

First thing to do is to find the free Group Bourdon practice papers on this forum at the top and print a million of those off and start practicing today! That is the same format that you will get on the day. If you’re not seeing dots in your sleep then you’re not doing enough. Time yourself and count your mistakes. Work at getting faster and more accurate.

There is another thread on this forum about purchasing practice packages which had been comprehensively answered with reasons to not buy it! Have a read of it and that should answer your question. Good luck.

Edit to add link to thread below.

That's good to hear, I found one that will get me down 40 minutes before so should be enough time. I know roughly where the test centre is walking wise.

Spent a good bit practicing on the Bourdon after printing them off, getting about 10 - 11 lines without mistakes and I improved after each practice so it definitely works. I think the hardest for me will be memorising the information in the passages for the questions.

Thank you for the other info, hopefully get past Tuesday then will start prepping for DMI.

Personally, IMO I would give yourself much more time. Given the daily disruption and the potential for it, I wouldn’t be comfortable with only 40 mins to spare. If you’re late, you’ll start worrying and end up not in the best frame of mind for the tests if you’re arrive stressed. Not that I’m speaking from personal experience you understand ;)

I know a good few people who stayed in a hotel the night before to remove any chance of stress getting there and a quiet environment for last minute revision. Could be a few pounds well spent.

Totally agree. 40 minutes isn't a great deal of time to get over to atrium court from Queen Street. You don't want to be rushing.

There were external assessments carried out Wednesday, can’t speak of any other day this week.

Those of you waiting, I know it may be hard but just be patient. They advertised for the whole of Scotland so naturally there will have been 1000’s and 1000’s of applicants.

They may be doing it location specific. Internally they have just advertised for the Glasgow area, Edinburgh area still waiting advertisement I believe. Rest of Scotland was advertised internally in December.
I am an external candidate and have stage 1 testing this coming Wednesday.

There is an article in yesterday's Herald, apparently 4500 people have applied for 116 trainee jobs. I would of excepted a far greater number of applicants.

Back in 2017 I think it was, there were 55 driver vacancies which attracted 15,000 applicants. Employment levels are much higher these days which might possibly explain the difference.

I applied May 2018 and when I had my final interview in May 2019, I was informed that over 20000 had applied although they never said how many positions there were on that particular recruitment drive.

Hi everyone,

A couple of questions.

What is the shift pattern like for drivers? And how much annual leave do they get?

I live within a 2mi radius of the depot I've applied for. Is it still a case that this is considered advantageous when applying and getting through the

With regards to AL, you have 5 weeks, taken as 2 blocks of 2 weeks and a block of one week. You also have 6 lieu days and PH's at Xmas and NY to factor in also.

The shifts tend to be a week of earlies followed by a week of lates and on a 3 weeks cycle, ie
Week 1 - Rd's Mon, Tues and Sun
Week 2 - Rd's Wed, Thurs and Sun
Week 3 - Rd's Fri, Sat and Sun.
So every 3 weeks you are off a run of 5 days, Fri-Tues.

You also have a booked Sun shift which is roughly one a month but not on your long weekend. The Sunday is option OT and can make yourself not available for them. If that is the case, you only work it, if it cannot be covered. I have not worked one in over a year.

In a word- no. As long as you’re within the required travel time to the depot then that’s all they’re interested in. It won’t stand you in any better shape if you live closer. It’s merely a criteria for you to meet in order to progress onto the next stage.

Have you tried to contact HR or recruitment team? Surely they can clarify either is a mistake or indeed you need to complete an online test hence you need the link to be sent to you.

Hi Samsanbor,

Thanks for your reply, yes ive emailed HR twice but had no response as yet. My colleague also applied for the same roles but his application is still sitting at recieved/under consideration status. Im hoping to hear something soon. Guess its a good sign mine has changed status though?

It's quite hard to get in touch with them but you shouldn't worry too much though.
For what I have understood, when you progress, you either get an invitation straight away to take the assessment or the status of your application changes to "this application is under further consideration".
If they require you to take an "online assessment" this is shown as well on your status, like it has happened to you.
However, what it's not clear to me is the fact for Trainee Train Drivers Recruitment they normally do not require an online assessment and they haven't sent a link to you either.
But remember, as long you can still see your application under consideration is a positive, mine stayed for 3 years before I received an invitation.

Mine is still sitting at 'This application is under consideration' since the closing date. I submitted about a week before the 14th. Is it a good sign it's not been rejected yet?

Do they sift by location?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply, well now im confused then as to why my application status is showing that hmmmm.
Silly question are you certain the application was for Trainee Driver as I'm sure other vacancies within Scotrail that conduct online tests. Good luck and hopefully it's resolved soon

Same here! I applied for the Aberdeen depot and am still currently sat at ‘This application is under consideration’.

Trying not to let it bother me for now, but it does worry me a tad having seen other responses here.
