I'm pretty certain that putting the six most "important" and "unimportant" NTS in the "correct" order doesn't give the highest indication as to whether or not someone can drive a train.
All the options were important in my opinion. My OH agreed with the options I chose, and they are a train driver.
We’ve tidied things up in this thread now but please be patient with other members and keep things friendly from now on please (and don’t let us or yourselves down ).
Liverpool applicant here, just received an email inviting me to stage one assessments in Crewe on the 4th April. M7/VSE deadline was today but completed at the weekend. Good luck to all those still waiting!
Well done on getting through to Crewe mate , anyone else you know heard back for the 4th.
I also applied for liverpool but didn't get to my vse until Wednesday so I've either bombed out or they haven't got to it yet, but I'm not holding my breath ...
Is this your first Driver Application?

Thanks buddy. My wife received her email late yesterday for Crewe on the 4th too. She did her assessments after me so it seems like they're just working down the list as they come in so I'm sure you'll hear some good news next week.
Yeah it's my first go at it. I'm a mechanical engineer in a completely different industry. My wife fancied a career change and the more she talked about it and the more I read about it, I started to think it would be a good change for me too!
How about yourself?

I've had an email today regards my results from m7 and sve, saying there may be a delay ofnupton28 days for the results ? I completed mine on Tuesday this week just gone ? So not sure if that's good or bad ?

Is there anyone who hasn’t heard anything at all?? I applied for Liverpool and Manchester, did my first 5 assessments on the 12th, deadline of the 14th…I’ve not even had the 28 day email??

With 1000s of applications, people who have applied to depots they don’t live within travel time, others not eligible to apply ie existing drivers, 2 failed attempts, attempts with other operators a few weeks ago meaning can’t progress, all needing to be checked to confirm who can attend the assessments. Until you hear it’s a fail I’d stay positive. Good luck

Hi all, looking for some advice on the VSE tests. I’m still currently going through practice material. The instructions for part 3 state to spend no more than 4 seconds on each row of squares and boxes of letters. There’s 8 boxes on each line. Can someone explain to me how this is possible. I tried doing only the columns with the squares and dots and this alone came to 4 seconds a line, without even looking at the letters

I’m pretty much the same as you. Completed 5 tests on 11th March with deadline on 14th. Nothing back at all. Think with volume of applicants it will just take some time.
Unfortunately most of us don't really know the pass marks, and even if someone did they aren't really supposed to disclose it so as to protect the integrity of the testing progress, so we can't really say whether 5 to 6 errors is okay. But that said a few errors here and there are acceptable because some people did mistakes and got through last time round, myself included. How many I can't say for sure because you can't quite fully know what you missed since, well you missed it.
How do you know you didn't make any errors on the track?
Unfortunately nobody bar the OPC would be able to tell you whether that is a pass or fail. You are never told how you scored and therefore it is purely speculative as how you think you did.
Someone may have passed by making 10 errors and someone else may have smashed the test and had one or two errors. Both will have been told they had passed and no more.
Hope this helps

I'm pretty sure you did not read this correctly. It was asking you to make an assessment in terms of the importance of the task in relation to a train drivers responsibilities.
Nowhere did it state that the tasks were 'Unimportant'.
Maybe if you'd done a little research into the Non Technical skills you would have understood how imporant some are over others.
Funnily enough, 'Attention to detail' is one of the skills.

Agree 100%, think your post landed just before mine.

Having passed all of the Tests including VSE, RAAT and Enhanced passes with other TOC's/FOC's. It is a waiting game with no rhyme or reason for the length of time or notification at all with regards to failures.
As many have posted on this and the previous Avanti Threads, you just need to complete the tests when they come through and then assume life as normal. It will drive you insane if you are constantly checking e-mails and wondering whay you have been contacted.
Cool your jets and stay positive. No news is good news (until you get the "you've not met the standard' e mail)

Really enjoying the thread, on the whole, and the tips and help have been absolutely fantastic, especially as a railway outsider.
I was wondering, are most people who are applying already in the railway industry? Or are there many, like myself, who are applying from vastly different professions? Up until now, I've been a research geochemist/geoarchaeologist but would absolutely love to drive trains. Had never contemplated that it could even be a job open to me until recently. I've applied for a few non-driver positions with ScotRail and heard absolutely nothing back, so I'm already a small step ahead of that with Avanti. I'm used to the university system/academia, and so used to the long waits before I hear anything back (a year is nothing in academia).
That's fair enough, but don't torture yourself.
What will be will be.
All you can do is give the tests your all and hopefully it wil be enough to get you over the line.
How did you find part 3 In the actual tests when both tasks are combined? The practice material seems near on impossible to compete in the time they’ve specified
The practice material is designed to give your brain some training into spotting incomplete sequences.
Its has no direct correlation to the actual tests but it will prepare your brain to be match ready for the actual test.
The best advice i can give you is, read the instructions (attention to detail) and do as it says.
Do not get 'rattled' by mistaking a mistake or two. You will, unless you are some form of jedi master.

Thank you, this helps. Don't need to stress, think positive and all will be well. I had really severe anxiety problems, but yoga meditation really helped me.

I downloaded a VSE tool to help me, its really good, similar to the real test not exactly the same, but much better than the practice which bears no resemblance.

I mean if it puts you at ease, when I done it in the last drive;
Part 1: No errors.
Part 2: 2-3 errors on shapes.
Part 3: 1 error on track, 5-6 errors on shapes.
