Many thanks for this. Have we any idea which specific ones at this stage?Next 170 expected from TFW on 01/04/2023 with a further unit expected on 08/04/2023
Thanks. I thought TFW were trying to keep all 8 due to the shortage of 175sNext 170 expected from TFW on 01/04/2023 with a further unit expected on 08/04/2023
They've probably not being able to keep all of them given that EMR also need them for the summer timetable. While I don't know anything, I can easily see a situation where EMR get 4 and TfW keep 4 for the time being.Thanks. I thought TFW were trying to keep all 8 due to the shortage of 175s
If TFW are able to keep 4 at least they will be able to cover most of the Maesteg to Cheltenham's which are supposed to be 175s from May TT change. They've probably not being able to keep all of them given that EMR also need them for the summer timetable. Seems like sensible scenario then, but given this is the DfT controlling this, who knows? If TFW are able to keep 4 at least they will be able to cover most of the Maesteg to Cheltenham's which are supposed to be 175s from May TT change.
This is the move - ROG moving to Derby station only where EMR driver will take onto Etches ParkSeems like sensible scenario then, but given this is the DfT controlling this, who knows?

This looks like it might be the path for the next TfW 170, strange that RTT only has it running to Derby though and that it's stopping at every station on the way. Unless it's an XC 170 on some kind of training run?

A reliable source from the ROSCO told me it needs a raft change before it can workI’m assuming it will be able to begin service up there almost immediately?
… because of course a unit that was working in Wales one week can’t possibly be suitable to work in the East Midlands the following week…A reliable source from the ROSCO told me it needs a raft change before it can work
Well, if it needs reps it needs reps, Wales has a unit shortage at the minute so they may as well send a knacker first - Etches Park can do the work and EMR aren't short of units until the timetable change starts.… because of course a unit that was working in Wales one week can’t possibly be suitable to work in the East Midlands the following week…Sheesh, the MDTR really doesn’t help itself, does it!
It’s funny that this subject has come up - I ended up looking at a few YouTube videos of 205 yesterday (and combined with my experience of 205 in the past), one word came to mind. Gutless. So I wonder if any work prior to it entering traffic will include an overhaul of the mechanical side of things.Well, if it needs reps it needs reps, Wales has a unit shortage at the minute so they may as well send a knacker first - Etches Park can do the work and EMR aren't short of units until the timetable change starts.
So have EMR got the worst TfW 3-car unit first then? Possibly, I can only comment from my view as a passenger than from a staff point of view. But as Low Level mentions, while it may be a duff unit for Wales, a good overhaul by EMR could make it a good one. Certainly from videos on YouTube and a trip on it last year it seems to be a slow and somewhat wheezy accelerator, eg;So have EMR got the worst TfW 3-car unit first then? Typical!

Consider tfw are chronically short of units right now they weren't going to send their best. Unless of course you want the network to grind to a halt like February. So have EMR got the worst TfW 3-car unit first then? Typical!
Also, come to think of it. It’s pretty standard procedure now isn’t it - the Southern units spent a little time in storage before they entered traffic, while some of the former TfW units also did too.Consider tfw are chronically short of units right now they weren't going to send their best. Unless of course you want the network to grind to a halt like February.
That's true I suppose, but if they're all coming over pretty quick, that'll happen anywayConsider tfw are chronically short of units right now they weren't going to send their best. Unless of course you want the network to grind to a halt like February.
There is of course the possibility the dft or emr and tfw have come to an arrangement in the meantime which of course wouldn't be made public let's wait and seeThat's true I suppose, but if they're all coming over pretty quick, that'll happen anyway
Yes, it would be nice to know exactly how many units are moving over before the May timetable changeThere is of course the possibility the dft or emr and tfw have come to an arrangement in the meantime which of course wouldn't be made public let's wait and see
It would I suspect it depends on the 175s and introduction of 197sYes, it would be nice to know exactly how many units are moving over before the May timetable change
Gutless, like all the other 170s with the underpowered truck engines? It’s funny that this subject has come up - I ended up looking at a few YouTube videos of 205 yesterday (and combined with my experience of 205 in the past), one word came to mind. It is due an exam and powertrain change and couldn't, for whatever reason, be done by TFW according to my contact… because of course a unit that was working in Wales one week can’t possibly be suitable to work in the East Midlands the following week…Sheesh, the MDTR really doesn’t help itself, does it!
