Biggest waste of time applying for Manchester push back delay then another push back delay then rejected. I'll stick to a proper public transport

When did you find out about the rejection?
Six weeks along and not a single person who applied for Manchester has been successful. As far as I’m aware this is a strange anomaly as all other depots seem to have had at least some successful candidates. Yet by some strange coincidence all of the applicants for Mancs depot (so far) were substandard ?

Must be something in the water.

I think Polmadie are in the same position as us in Manchester. I don't remember seeing anyone getting past the first 5 tests.

Everyone will hear back eventually. Don’t stress out to much.. sit back and practice for the next steps

Love the conspiracy….so Avanti have just decided to bin all the Manchester applicants….I’d suggest that it’s more likely that those that have failed the process have been binned. Those that have passed the process so far have holding emails until the face to face stuff starts. And how many Manchester applicants do you know…5,10…and how many applied?

That is possible but it hasn’t been true so far, if you read other posts you’ll see some Manchester applicants have had the 6 week email or 28 days email and then a rejection later on - or sometimes the other way around (?!) with only a day between. This happened to me also. In any case what would prevent the OPC from informing someone they had passed and then holding them for the next stage? This is in effect what happens at talent bank stage where people are left in limbo having passed all the requirements.

I didn’t say conspiracy I said it was a strange coincidence that Manchester was being held back and nobody had as yet been successful.

The opc sent me an email stating that they are processing other depot’s applications first before the Polmadie ones. So don’t worry we’ll hopefully get some news in the not too distant future.

Have to be honest with myself I think I ballsed up the 1st Stage in person tests. Had practised repeatedly the GB and the tone/directory test and found it was easy enough. The practice test for the memory and dials I found easy on the practice paper so only did it a few of times. On the day after the 5 minutes wait after reading the memory test stuff I was missing the detail, and the dials test I lost about a minute with a brain freeze after all the instructions and only managed 30ish. If your invited for this stage you need to practice for everything again and again, sure I did below average but competitively I screwed it up.

Heard you can fail and try again, is that a case of keeping an eye out for the next recruitment drive, which could be a year or two away?

Wouldn’t beat yourself up until you get the result :). I’ve been thinking I didn’t do enough in the TRP1 memory test as I had to guesstimate around 3 questions, but you never know until you know with these things. I think if you fail you can retake in 6 months and you get 2 attempts in your lifetime before you can’t do any more.

Get someone to help you, like a family member or partner if you can.
Get them to pick (without your knowledge otherwise you know what images are coming) several kitchen, bathroom, traffic, airport scenes (things where there's a lot going on).
You can either print them out and flash them to you or get them, for 1-2 seconds, to flip round the image on a ipad/tablet and ask you what saw.
Even better if the images are similar that way you can create a list.
For example if you decide to do airport scenes you can have: planes, staff, signage, luggage, and cafés as your answers, and get them to say "which of these, if any, did you see".

Literally say/select what you see.
Don't let your mind fill in gaps.

Its better to miss something out, than to say something that wasn't there.

Thanks for the advice, I have downloaded the software where I have 1 image lasting 1 second for 10 rounds. Its very hard, the scene is so congested. How is it in the actual test, less crowded of an image?

I dont know what images you have, to compare, but from what I remember, it's quite difficult. Some people have photographic memory and find it easier.

I think there are a maximum of 5 or 6 different items to select from, so one image could have 1 of the items whilst another has the full 5 or 6 so it all depends.
Also for the other computer tests, playing a games console for a week or two will definitely help with that.

Thanks, I have to keep practicing on this part. The others I am fine with.

Morning. I attended the Group Bourdon session at Crewe on the 5th and not heard anything yet. Just checking if anyone on here has had anything from that day? I appreciate the Easter break has probably something to do with it.

Still not heard back so presuming I failed. Congrats anyways!!
Don't assume mate, you don't know yet! You might have passed and just waiting for the email. I noticed how varied the times are, for example received news of passing VSE/M7 after 13 days and Stage 1 after 2 days.

I wouldn't assume that, no news is good news! I've been pretty lucky at hearing quickly but I think it's just luck of the draw. Maybe it's availability of stage 2 assessments? Only the OPC understand the OPC unfortunately!

Edinburgh applicant here, passed the M7 but unfortunately failed the VSE. Didn’t think I done the absolute worst on the VSE, but it just goes to show you don’t really know until that email comes through. Best of luck to everyone else in your applications!

Good luck everyone and keep your chins up!
