The Mayor like most politicians is always visible when things are looking good. When it starts to hit the fan he turns into the invisible man. Do we really need a Metro Mayor?
Maybe I'm straying off topic, but there is definitely a need for a political structure or leader who is strong enough to stand up to the government of the day. The specific needs of a metropolitan region are not going to be met by a one-size-fits-all national policy. Whatever the parties in charge. Perhaps even less so when national and local leadership are in the hands of the same party. I can see Andy Burnham having the guts to stand up to both a Tory and potential Labour* government. I still need to be convinced about Steve Rotheram.

*it may be necessary to check the Trades Descriptions Act.

Agreed, particularly when Westminster does not have the interests of Northern England at heart and also lacks competence.

Accordingly to the Wirral Globe, new trains enter service on the Wirral line (everywhere except Ellesmere Port branch) from Monday.
The plan as far as I have been told is aiming to introduce at least 1 of the new trains on the West Kirby and/or New Brighton the lines from Monday.
Also 777s have been running through the loop on training on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday over the past week and I believe all runs where from West Kirby.

The wirral globe is not the most reliable of sources . Plus only 1 train has made it past spital all summer so i very much doubt it will be successful based on current punctuality.
Merseytravel themselves tweeted that this stage of the rollout is starting.

To be fair to local newspapers, the mayors office news release says
From Monday, the state-of-the-art trains will gradually enter passenger service on the West Kirkby, New Brighton and Chester lines.
Which reads as the will start of these 3 lines on Monday, and then gradually take over more services, it is not phrased as one of the 3 lines might see one train, definitely written as all 3 lines, (although could be one train doing each line at different times of Monday).

1 train on the west kirby line and 1 train on the new brighton line with a 3rd unit starting on the Chester later in the week.

Though I notice that even they can't spell West Kirby correctly.

I am sure that anyone who has been there and also to Kirkby, would never mix up the two places in their head!

And what is the livpost,co.uk?
Liverpool's new newspaper. Fledgling, but decent, growing and being professionally resourced.
Well worth the sub.

I don't know if anybody is interested but 777004 was parked on 1 of the Birkenhead North depot tracks were units can run through to platform 3, it couldn't be stabled alongside the main shed building as 230010 was occupying that track.

I spotted the unit at around 15:31 while returning to Wallasey Grove Road after having a look around liverpool onboard 508108 which had taken me over to Liverpool at 12:57 and had boarded the same unit at 15:20 from Liverpool Central. I have not fully seen 777013 yet although I have seen little bits if the unit with its pink and blue eurovision wrap at New Brighton while on a shopping trip a few days ago.

It’s worth pointing out to some that a 777 on test/training runs is equally as likely to block the line as one in passenger service.
1 train on the west kirby line and 1 train on the new brighton line with a 3rd unit starting on the Chester later in the week.
Do we have any idea when the first services will be? Presumably they will be starting on the Wirral and not from Liverpool, off peak only at first.

It looks as though the class 777 units will be planned to work on the following Wirral diagrams;
West Kirby - the diagram which start with 2W06 (0751), ending with 2W46 (1751), with the unit then going ECS to North depot.
New Brighton - the diagram which starts with 2N02(0623), ending with 2N49(1823) , with the unit going ECS to Kirkdale depot.
Chester - the diagram which starts with 2C00(0536 from Moorfields), ending with 2C45(1715), with the unit going ECS to North depot.
NB: on Saturdays, it seems the Chester diagram planned to be worked by a class 777 will be the one starting with 2C09 (0815). I guess to prevent the 777 being on a diagram which is out to end of service.
Quite neat how its planned with the units cycling between Kirkdale depot every 3 days in service.

Just the West Kirby and New Brighton line at first.

There don’t seem to have been many complaints about the Wirral line service totally collapsing today, so a successful introduction perhaps?

It’s gone well on the whole, though a train has gone pop on West Kirkby. Just looked and it was indeed the 777 diagram. Such a shame as almost went through a full day
