I've noticed the door buttons between coaches are being replaced by the modern yellow type however they don't light up presumably due to an issue with housing electrics
The 165s very often have no bike straps due to vandalism which is another concern

This might not be the right thread for this, or even 165/166 related but there's a path in today for something to go from SPM to Doncaster Works, it's pathed as a turbo but might not be, any ideas?

166202 > SPM
166203 > Wolverton

166201 has been delayed due to work arising. I believe refurb work exposed an area requiring extra work which involved some in depth investigations.

Not going to have another 150202 situation are we?

Thank you for the update. I did wonder if 166202 would overtake 166201 with 166202 being in Wolverton for six weeks instead of the usual four. But it seems it will be for a little bit longer because 5Q81 is now shown as cancelled on RTT

Presumably this means even less trains available for service, and even more short forms unless Bristol can get close to 100% availability of trains not at works

I believe the current plans assume two units in Wolverton at any one time. It is just that the two currently in Wolverton, 166201 and 166202 have been in Wolverton for approximately 9 weeks and 6 weeks respectively when I think that they should have only been there for 4. It doesn't affect the number of units available at Bristol currently, but it will mean the scruffier units will continue in service for a while longer, and it will be pushing back the end date of the refresh programme which I think was due to be completed by the start of next summer?

166 209 (one of the blue ones) has just offloaded passengers at Westbury (from a Bath-Portsmouth working) as apparently unable to continue.

Clearly Wolverton not returning units in timely way is causing others to be worked too hard to point they fail

Showing on the system as due to a shortage of crew as opposed to a unit fault. 166209 is currently showing to operate 1F32 1923 Portsmouth Harbour to Bath Spa between Westbury and Bath, not from Pompey again due to no crew.

Not surprised, I was the guard on that this morning, it was terribly slow and sounded rather ill.
I was on one of the "refurbished" ones last week on the Exmouth-Paignton and it still had non working air conditioning in two vehicles, had only been back in traffic a few days

Yes, it’s pretty difficult to continue when there’s unfortunately train crew to take it forward.

Wolverton cannot be blamed for train crew issues!

The clue for the cancellation is even on the GWR journey check!

Apologies I didn't look at that, just based it on announcements which were having to be taken out of service, rather than of format a colleague hadn't bothered to turn up. I know the unions tend to prefer defective trains than defective staff being announced.

Did look at Real Time trains which was showing still in service but not yet arrived at Warminster 15 mins later when I typed it, but was subsequently changed. Never occurred to me a guard or driver would be rostered for just first 28 minutes of a journey then changed.

166215 and 166221 completed
166201 and 166202 at Wolverton in the works
166203, 207, 209 & 211 remain in blue
The re-branding was almost exactly seven years ago and still there are several units in the old livery! I wonder if this is a record - I recall a number of maroon coaches in the very early 1970s in the blue/grey transition, but of course there were vastly more vehicles to deal with then.

SWR took over 6 years 2 months ago, and still have around 500 carriages in old SWT colours. Not just those due to be withdrawn, there are still some 450, 444 and possibly some 159s not repainted.

So the old livery on 166 is not exceptional

Not to mention their predecessor SWT started in February 1996 and some of their VEPs went to their grave in 2004/2005 still wearing NSE livery!!

Southeastern, and their Networkers and 376s would like to join the conversation about old liveries :D

Finally used one on the North Downs Line this week. The interior was clean and in good nick, a significant improvement over the old First ones.

I noticed half the hopper windows weren't locked shut, so there was noise and fumes getting in and the air cooling was having to run at full pelt to compensate. But that's not so much a refurb issue as guards or customers not closing them properly.

My main complaint is that lots of the window glazing was absolutely shot, especially on the doors. Condensation due to blown double glazing, or the outside layers/lamination peeling off. Due to how large the windows are, it made them look instantly tatty again despite the actually rather good interior.

At least the Blue Turbo’s only date from around 2014/2015, whereas the Desiro’s are still in their original paint from new. And although a little faded, still looks relatively smart (a lack of visits by the local Bristol artists helps).
