Maybe a class 155?

As an aside, has anyone got any pics of the refurbished station with the footbridge etc?

Also, RTT was showing some Northern services as reversing in the new platform - has the track layout changed to allow this or is it a data error?
Very rare we have any 155’s these days in West Yorkshire.

The track layout allows a train from Knottingley to cross over just after Cutsyke Junction to access platform 2. There isn’t any access from the Whitwood Junction direction into platform 2 though.

I have just looked and it was 150205

Re the access to p2, is this new as Traksy/OTT don't appear to show any suitable crossover

What happened here with the 16:33 Castleford - Leeds? (origin Knottingley)

Live departures was showing Platform 1 throughout then a freight train went zooming down that platform around 16:30 and all of a sudden the Northern service showed up on Platform 2! (Live departures still none the wiser but the passengers eventually got the message via some good old shouting across the platforms :D)

Quite unimpressed by the design of the footbridge at Castleford. No matter how much they clean it, it is always covered in pigeon feaces. They have made a design with loads of roosting space for them that is open to the passenger area. The floor in places is a carpet of pigeon poo which surely presents a health hazard.

Considering our experience with pigeons at stations how was this missed?

Quite a few times now the Knottingley - Leeds are advertised as Platform 1 then have a sudden change of mind at literally the last second and end up arriving on Platform 2!

Resulting in a mad dash for all the passengers on Platform 1 to hot foot it across the bridge to Platform 2 (not particularly ideal if there are any passengers with a disability either as they have to wait for the lifts, guard may not be aware and be off before they even get to the other side)

Any ideas why this happens?

I visited last night and none of the PIS screens anywhere on the station were working, so these platform variations are troublesome and anxiety-inducing for passengers. I assume it’s becoming a bottleneck with all the freight and passenger services now using it- another Mirfield.

Another great shame is the state of the footbridge, it’s proving very popular with the birds of Castleford and is covered in excrement throughout. These mega-bridges may keep the rain off passengers, but I think we’d all rather a bit of drizzle than bird droppings on us instead.

I did report both these issues to Northern.

No - but it’s not confined to Castleford. The number of times I’ve seen the staff info screen showing a train already signalled into one platform while announcements and public screens continue to direct people to a different one for several minutes….
