Just wanted to pull out a few bits of misinformation or confusion over the last couple of pages...
Hopefully they'll get us in before 2026.. (Major pension changes),
Without wanting to sound like the TfL machine, there are no pension changes confirmed. However, the expectation is that
when if there are changes it will affect all staff. Anything already accrued wouldn't change, but all new contributions would. The reality is that new joiners between now and the proposed alterations will see very little of the existing TfL pension (if the changes happen). I wouldn't use this as any big factor in taking the job or not, however, either way.
Night Crossrail would be manned by MTR Elizabeth Line staff (or STM agency if they can't fill positions!) as it's operated by them on concession to TfL. We won't be assigned to that line as we're LUL staff.
Covered already, but there would be an increase in CSA and CSS/M requirement at all of the LU-managed stations. Whilst MTR staff look after the platforms, the gatelines and overall station footprint is the responsibility of LUL.
If you can survive on the salary, then getting a foot in the door seems like a pragmatic decision. As soon as you are trained and in position there is often overtime, and you can ask to be trained (and therefore licenced) as a CSA1 and do 'Higher Grade Working' when available.
Per the agreements at ACAS earlier this year, all CSA2s will be upskilled to CSA1 after 12 month. In practice (as mentioned) this is happening at Ashfield House allowing staff to cover CSA1 shifts on overtime, but obviously this isn't the substantive grade and nor is it pensionable.
Confirmed that anyone within TfL is eligible to apply for operational vacancies (including train operator) after 6 months. And I can confirm that many people from all over the company are successful.
Yes and no. A lot of LTM roles are in fact agency-based, so it is very important to check the exact details of the role if applying based on the intention of moving across to LUL. The same also goes for other 'TfL' jobs that are actually concessions - DLR, MTR/EL, LO etc.
And, of course, some internal vacancies can also be close-listed to certain grades anyway.
