I went onto the platform and took a few photos of 701036! I then decided it was best to board 2S35 to Clapham Junction for a passing shot of the test train, but now we’re currently stuck at Queenstown Road with a train fault. I think 701036 is right behind us.

Great pictures! Interesting that the side dot matrices show the train length too (top right-hand corner)!

They look stunning.

Is it not the carriage number (1-10)? That seems more likely.
On a 10 coach train at the rear, it still shows the length! :D
Both good points!
Interesting, they've opted for showing the train length there over the headcode.
Do other Aventras (other than 345s) show the headcode? I've never been on them so I've no idea. Length/carriage number is much more useful to the general public than the headcode though, I should think.

Good that they're showing the calling points as well. This is also possible on the 707s as SE have implemented it.

Probably as a Headcode is utterly useless for the general public, where as, the coach number is not.
That is true, but then again most of the general public don't look at the side destination boards for carriage, especially in a rush where as for example with the 345s that headcode(when its working) is useful for station staff when assisting an MIP/ VIP or if any faults etc occur on train departure, without having to use a device. Most of the time the carriage your in is displayed on the onboard screens.

Interesting to see the different use cases for the side boards by operators.

CBA to go through all of the recent posts but surely all this movement is a promising thing?

5Q50/51/52 are the mileage accumulation runs, operated by GBRf so are still 'Testing' the units out. Also why they show no operator on RTT whereas the training runs are shown as SWR run.
So are 5Q50/51/52 formed with factory-fresh units from Derby?

Just got confirmation from an SWR staff member that the 701s will enter service this Sunday (the 7th), from 1000 to 1600. They said "just received and signed our briefs".
Will be operating on 2UXX, driver open and close with guards monitoring PTI displays. Will post information about diagrams and such later today.

There's apparently a 701 on platform 7 at Waterloo right now.
I noted that the 10.12 Sheeperton via New Malden was replatformed somewhat strangely to platform 17 and left late at 10.24. Must have been fun to get across all the tracks to the right line. Was this because there was a 701 sitting on Platform 7

A Sunday seems unlikely. Especially as the 1Sxx services are diverting to Windsor that day…

no, it was because it was waiting for another unit to attach to it

Seems the 0911 off SHP was cancelled due to “a problem with the train” so ran empty, fast back to Waterloo as 5H22 using the fasts from Raynes Park, 17 must just have been available

Do the fellow members of this forum think that Claire Mann will try and get the 701's in to service before she goes back to TFL.
When one unit comes out at the start of service and stays out all day on diagram you can say they are in service. Unlikely that criteria will be fulfilled before she takes up her new role I would suggest.

And I doubt she'll be that interested anymore. She's probably more concerned with wondering if she'll need to sort out the RMT dispute on the Underground when she rejoins TfL!

Just seen this one (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/detailed/gb-nr:NINELMJ/2024-01-05/1531) at Ashford doing a 'dummy' stop, including door release.

This one?

Thanks for the update! This Rail magazine article (https://www.railmagazine.com/news/fleet/2024/01/05/soft-launch-planned-for-delayed-arterios) suggests that the soft launch will only be a Monday to Friday service, so it is interesting that they are launching it on a Sunday.

Yes - thanks. Not sure what happened with my link!

Really hope the first service is in the next couple of weeks and entry in to service kicks on from there.

That article appeared in the December 13th issue and confidenbtly predicted the Arterios would enter service in December. The December 27th issue also implied the soft launch would have taken place before the publication date.

I think we have had a Sunday prediction before as well............

Is this a 701 service on Sunday Waterloo-Windsor ?
100mph EMU is not 455 or 458

There also appears to be an ECS from Staines to Windsor and back to Staines half hour before, is this some sort of inspection and checking the branch is OK before important working, especially as might be frosty Sunday morning, and want to check conductor rail isn't icy.
