Hi
Anyone know what works are happening between Leeds and Huddersfield the week Mon Fri.
Line appears on RTT to be open but with a reduced service with some bus substitution.
Things seem to have gone quiet on here and on YouTube recently.
Thanks
K

I've been reading this thread with interest as Huddersfield is my local station and on commute route to Halifax I use. I saw the other week that a short new section of track (first of the new four track alignment?) has gone down just outside Deighton station along with the extensive earthworks continuing. Thought i'd take a quick clip (westbound) while passing to update for interest on here.

Back in post #7475, Geeves drew our attention to the flickr page of Robert Stenhouse, who has lots of photos of the works between Huddersfield and Dewsbury. I just thought I'd mention that he's added a lot of new ones since then:

Pictures from either side of Colne bridge today.
There looks to be insufficient space to put two more tracks where the electricity substation is? Is it being demolished or are all tracks being slewed to the left towards mamas and papas?

Any news on whether the planned energisation of Colton Jn - Church Fenton took place as planned?
Now posted by TRU on social media
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) reached another major milestone over the weekend with the energisation of the new electrification system in North Yorkshire, ready to power greener journeys in the future.

This achievement took place between Church Fenton and Colton Junction, where trains from Leeds join the East Coast Main Line into York. This is one of the busiest stretches of railway in the north, with over 100 trains using the line each day.

This brings us a step closer to a cleaner, fully-electrified railway between York, Leeds and Manchester. The overhead wires, which now carry 25,000 volts, will allow more environmentally-friendly electric and hybrid trains to run at speeds of up to 125mph – that’s 30mph faster than they can currently run – reducing journey times.

Over the last 3 years our TRU East Alliance has installed 350 piled foundations to support this new overhead line system, including 300 new cantilever and portal structures, to support the 37 miles of new contact catenary wires along this four-track stretch of line. Work was carried out overnight and at weekends to minimise disruption to passengers as much as possible.

To maintain an equally eco-friendly construction, they assembled the new overhead line equipment locally at their nearby Joseph Lynn Logistics Hub in Sherburn-in-Elmet and transported it to site by train.

Local communities and businesses were made aware of the switch-on and safety talks were given to children at nearby schools.

When complete across the full 70-mile route across the Pennines, rail passengers will be helping to save up to 87,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year – the equivalent to 5.9 million car journeys along the same route. For people living near the railway, it will also mean better air quality and quieter trains.

Does this mean that power change over has moved further along to Leeds now?
Not yet as far as I know.
IIRC the Leeds lines are connected to the legacy with OLE, but the tangential wiring gap around Colton Jn's famous 125mph diamond has yet to be plugged (if you'll excuse the shocking pun*).
Once that's done, that's when the Normanton lines will be continuously wired.
Of course, APCO might come online for the Leeds lines only to start...

(*and this shocking pun too.)

That's just reminded me, does anyone who what the plans are for the current formation between Ravensthorpe and Dewsbury are once it's abandoned?

From my point of view it looks like it would make a great bridleway and cycle route, connecting to the existing one into Dewsbury, a bridleway between Ravensthorpe station and Sands Lane, which leads onto quieter roads to connect with the Calder Valley Greenway (map HERE) at Mirfield station, which currently uses unsuitable main and residential roads between Mirfield and the Dewsbury side of the Calder.

Am I right in thinking there is to be a major blockage at Colton Junction between Christmas and NewYear this year to connect everything up at Colton Junction? Thanks

According to post 8052, the wires have been energised from Colton jct to Church Fenton so the connections must have been made(unless someone knows differently)!

According to the May issue of Modern Railways, summarised by me in #7868, in this case initial energisation comes before the final reconfiguration of the wires at Colton Junction. It seems a bit odd to me but I assume they know what they're doing. Presumably it enables them to fully test the wires, except for the immediate Colton area, in advance of final completion, which will probably require an ECML possession. Also deters theft.

Massive portakabin structure (with apologies to Legoland) has appeared at Huddersfield station in front of goods warehouse. I assume it's messing, accomodation, offices etc.
Surprised they couldn't use the old goods warehouse?

Listed Huddersfield station cafe demolition going well now, all timbers being marked for subsequent rebuilding in due course in slightly revised position.

How far does the Church Fenton electrification go please? Does it actually reach the station or just north of it?

Last time I went on the leeds to york line, there was piling works done but not has many between micklefield and church fenton, probably waiting til neville hill depot is done before they electrify the rest of the line.

So does a train from York to Leeds pan down for the junction, then pan up for the fairly short new bit, then pan down again?

No, pan up and down has not changed and is unlikely to do so till the full work at Colton Junction as far as I am aware. Although plans could go course change!
