No not at all, was only for the first tests with obviously no guarantees I would pass. Just letting the person know Im Edinburgh area, so assume it was for there.

Yes, it's not that it's a bad salary at all, it's fantastic. but while training it's a big drop for me, and with a family it's harder to make those sacrifices. by the time I'd be qualified I'll have every chance of being on a comparable salary in my career.
I understand the point regarding the drop of salary.
What I don't understand is why would you bother to apply when you knew already the terms and conditions weren't any good for your circumstances?

Circumstances change, namely a pay rise at work between applying and getting asked to next stage.

I have passed all assessments and had my medical on Tuesday 3rd September. Since then I haven’t heard anything. Has anyone else had to wait so long regarding medical results? I have emailed the recruitment team a couple of times regarding this but haven’t had a reply

Anyone who has applied for Edinburgh still waiting to hear of their date for atrium court? I got my met the standard email on 30th May and heard nothing since.
Hi mate. I sat stage 1 assessment on Tuesday 16th July for Edinburgh. There were another couple from Edinburgh there that I know of, but also plenty from other Depots, so I wouldn’t be too worried as they’ll work their way through eventually. Unfortunately I am unsure how they work through them all though. I know people from my work who applied and have now got the job, but this was the 2021/22 intake. They applied and a few years later got a random email and went through the stages. It was 9 weeks ago since sitting and passing stage 1 and still waiting to hear about a DMI though! I know others at different Depots got their DMI a lot sooner, so everybody’s journey appears to be unique to them. It’s frustrating, but I have stopped worrying and checking emails now. What will be will be. I am prepared for a short notice DMI as I already have a lot of material ready for it when I finally get my shot.

Hi I'm looking for information please on pay and pensions and I cant find it on the thread.

If I may so bold, and please reply privately if that's preferred, what does a trainee take home after deductions, including pension deductions because I would opt in, for that first 12 months?

Training for 12 months based in Glasgow? If so can you claim non rail travel?

Also same question for newly qualified and qualified.

Can anyone confirm 35 hour week and 62 year old retirement age?

Many thanks
Did you get any reply to this? I notice your more recent post pulling out due to circumstances and wondered if it was because you were informed about the actual take home training pay? Appreciate any feedback as I have worked out the salary based on a tax calculator and tried to work out the pension myself too (assuming 4% is minimum/average) so wondered if my calculations are correct or not. I am in a similar boat to others regarding taking £10k+ a drop for training. The flip side being I’d be £15/20k better off once passed, assuming the pay is around £60/£65k all in.

I am happy for DM if you do know and don’t want to share on the thread.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Hi, I don't want to give false information because I'm not 100% on it, and it wasn't a purely salary based desicion for me.

I should maybe have made that clear in my post.

(I'm fairly well progressed in my career with a decent pathway ahead of me)

It was a combination of numerous factors. if it was purely salary I dare say I could have juggled a bit.

Good luck to everyone going forward, this page is a great resource and the job itself seems like it's great too.

Is anyone else who received an email in May advising you've been successful still waiting for their 1st date at Atrium Court?
I’m similar received the met the standard email 16 June and heard nothing since. I’m Dumfries based and I know that the two current spaces at Dumfries have now been filled internally so I’m guessing I could have a fair wait on my hands.

I’m also Dumfries , passed first tests at Atrium court and waiting on DMI. Any idea if any more spaces are coming up? Not great for us that have applied unfortunately but that’s the way it goes

Not 100% sure, I believe there are a few due to retire in the next year or two, so will depend if they can hire to be trained to take over or only able to recruit once they officially have the vacancies. Fingers crossed they can do a bit of succession planning.

You will need to go pretty far in the fire service to make over 65k a year. Area manager maybe? If you are closing in on that rank then best of luck to you. I hope it works out.

Have you had a conditional offer with a start date, pending the results?

Fingers crossed for the latter. Surely would make sense given the length of time training takes to recruit to take over but who knows , good luck with everything mate

Hi,

No longer in that area, different pathway.

As an aside, the train driver role I applied for stated 55k top line? This recently changed? great if so, not that it wasn't great before. Swamped with applications for a reason.

The cons outweighed the pros for me, but the cons were very specific to me (travel time, childcare, initial drop, outside interests)

I expect most people will have far more pros than cons, and a few years back I was the same, just wasn't meant to be!

Wishing everyone good luck going forward!

i got an email confirming I had passed all tests. Had to supply them with right to work docs, a basic disclosure and then I had my medical on 3rd September. Not had a conditional offer with start date yet

I think its 58 just now. With the imminent pay deal that'll take it to 60ish. Then with your Sundays on top it'll be roughly 65 I think.

Correct. Then roughly 500 quid every rest day you work. Currently a 4 day week, so plenty opportunities to work rest days.

2 a month and that's another 12k on top of the 65. 4 a month 24k etc.

I heard back in April and still nothing else
Same here, May time.

Mental to see people who applied at the same time and are now getting start dates.

There seems to be no order they are doing it. I remain hopeful that one day they'll send that email through, I'm constantly checking my inbox, surely some time soon

Congratulations everyone who has got through and are starting soon!
