Two trains have collided at Talerddig, Wales. Both trains are reported to be Class 158s running in 2 car sets. (Source, Realtime trains)

At this time this is a developing situation and not all details are out in the open.

The trains involved are believed to be:
1S71 Machynlleth to Shrewsbury
1J25 Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth

It's unclear at this time how serious this incident is.

For info, this is in the same area that the A470 is restricted due to a landslide/collapse.

Realtime trains says
1S71 = 158824
1J25 = 158841

They are definitely 158s since they're passenger trains on the Cambrian.

I don’t want to put too much here as it would not be appropriate but I would just like to say that everyone is accounted for and alive.
Mostly minor injuries with a conductor and driver sustaining some slightly worse ones but nothing that would appear life threatening.

Can't confirm but RTT seems to indicate that both trains arrived in the sidings at about the same time, so probably both were preparing to stop.
Traksy screenshot showing 1S71 to the top and 1J25 to the bottom.
they show as on different tracks on traksy and similar.

Good to know everyone is alive.

Let's just say rail head contamination is being considered, as part of investigations.

NRE references an operational incident.

Good to know everyone is okay, I'd just read of this incident elsewhere and it was reported that there was thought to be a fatality involved.

Further down the line today Dovey Junction was "extremely slippery".

With the weather over the last few days the streets look like months of leaf fall has come at once.

Happy to know everyone is okay, does anyone know how fast they could've been going? I am no expert on Cambrian speed limits.

Though perhaps their WSP performance may come under some scrutiny, this being their second collision in recent years due to wheel slide.

How many years have these units operated? with how many incidents of wheel slip causing incidents like this?

I hope they see many, many more - lovely trains! But I have no doubt it’ll be scrutinised, and probably rightly so.

On a different subject, has this just life-extended a couple of TfW 150s?!

Glad to hear everyone is safe and accounted for :)

Where is the loop in regard to the bank? 1 in 52 around there, is it not?

I highly doubt it, the lack of two 158s sure, but they can't be used on the Cambrian, so what's the use? I mean, you could just swap them in and out on Birmingham runs but that'd be odd.

No indication on how damaged the units involved are yet.
Hopefully they’ll return to service, they’re likely to need some ‘buffing out’ first though I should imagine!

Oh, right. Okay, thanks for letting us know. Hopefully everyone is definitely okay, can't be too careless with this stuff!

Emergency services are at the scene of a train crash in Powys.
Transport for Wales said "an operational incident" meant the lines between Machynlleth and Caersws are blocked.
Dyfed-Powys Police has closed the main A470 trunk road in Talerddig and advised drivers to avoid the area.
Residents reported a large emergency services presence including road ambulances and an air ambulance.
A coastguard helicopter is also at the scene, as well as firefighters.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to reports of a train accident at 19:34 BST.
British Transport Police is understood to be in charge of the incident.
Transport for Wales says services between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth will be cancelled until further notice, with a rail replacement in operation.
Due to road closures, trains are unable to call at Caersws station until further notice.
TfW and Network Rail are expected to issue a joint statement.

Losing two ETCS equipped 158s, even for the short term, will cause problems for the Cambrian. 150s are not such equipped. If damage is significant, it may not be worth repairing them before the new 197s come into service.
