They'll probably continue service on the metro/suburban routes until the 701s have fully rolled out, but the plans after that, idk.So what is going to happen now that they've done all the planned conversions? Are they still carrying out driver training?

The lease is through to 2027.Who knows, it's Porterbrook's money that's getting burnt but at least they will be getting some money back on this potentially short term lease while the Aventra's slowly enter traffic. I can see the ex 460's heading to Booths shortly though, no doubt after providing valuable spares for their Scottish and South Western cousins first though.
They haven't, I don't think? Some of the future 401-428 are still as /5s, only a couple mind.So what is going to happen now that they've done all the planned conversions? Are they still carrying out driver training?
which is why batteries and intermittent conductor rail to Salisbury and Exeter is under condsideration at SWR anyway. But there are copious numbers of 450s on the suburban network, (very rough guess - around 40 units inc Windsor lines?), all of which will be displaced by 701s eventually, plus we're talking about displacement from Portsmouth line fast services. At a guess I'd say in that scenario there would be more than enough to convert all the above to 12 coaches and still have a lot surplus.
The diagrams are mostly Waterloo to Weybridge via Hounslow with a couple of Hounslow loop peak workings. Four out of seven all day workings on this route are 458/4 formed.Used on Hounslow loop temporarily due to stock shortages to reduce short-forms and cancellations.
Will be deployed elsewhere once 701s take over.
Are they test runs?458407 & 458417 on today's 5Q90 & 5Q91 runs, as spotted at Eastleigh just now.
I presume so, Bournemouth to Basingstoke & back to Bournemouth. Are they test runs?
Have all the removed 5th cars gone for scrap, or are they in storage somewhere?
They are visible on the approach to Stoke On Trent station, when I went passed, on a Avanti service, IThey are all at Cockshute Sidings, Stoke.
I’ve seen photos of the first couple of removed coaches at Long Marston. Have they since been moved to Stoke? They are all at Cockshute Sidings, Stoke.
He specifically mentioned that the choice was Desiros or 701s.Apologies if this has already been mentioned but watching an interview with Neil Drury, SWR Infrastructure Director, by Green Signals on YouTube, he’s suggesting SWR are exploring how they can fit surplus EMUs with batteries or for use of on the WoE line to replace 158s/159s. So there likely is a future for the 458s after all.
Yes, and that would most likely require the 458s in use to release those…He specifically mentioned that the choice was Desiros or 701s.
Not really. He stated that the amount of 701s ordered were based on service levels that were never likely to be restored, hence a surplus. And it's going to be a pretty hefty surplus if service levels stay as they are. So they'd either displace Desiros or would themselves be used as battery trains.Yes, and that would most likely require the 458s in use to release those…
Intrigued to hear that. Are you sure it was an ex 460 coach or was it the PEP translator coach?the were quite a few of ex 460 coaches, though one was painted in a deep olive green livery. Which I presume is a pilot livery for transporting other units? Though confirmation. Would be great!
I happened to pass by this morning and it's definitely an ex-460 coach.Intrigued to hear that. Are you sure it was an ex 460 coach or was it the PEP translator coach?
There’s a current thread about it, been running almost a month now, but it’s more about 450s:Apologies if this has already been mentioned but watching an interview with Neil Drury, SWR Infrastructure Director, by Green Signals on YouTube, he’s suggesting SWR are exploring how they can fit surplus EMUs with batteries or for use of on the WoE line to replace 158s/159s. Looking on Flickr I came across this photo, no idea of number but it doesn't look olive green to me, more like a dark grey.I happened to pass by this morning and it's definitely an ex-460 coach.
Or Caledonian Sleeper "midnight teal"?Looking on Flickr I came across this photo, no idea of number but it doesn't look olive green to me, more like a dark grey.
