Hi all. I've been following this thread pretty closely since applying in March.

I had my 2nd assessment day at the start of November and thankfully passed both the assessment and MMI with a medical completed on the 12th November.

I'm looking for any information anyone has on lead times from medical to start date/contract. I understand that it will vary between depots and the needs of the company but I thought it was quite strange to be asked to attend a medical with no conditional start date or contract. The depot I was interviewed for was Perth. I believe that they were looking for a lot of drivers so I thought I would have heard an update by now.

Thanks

Keep practicing as much as possible and try to increase the speed whilst maintaining accuracy
The instructions say speed and accuracy are important
Try and replicate the test and do 10 minutes worth of dots….
2 minutes per page every now and then

You will start to identify the patterns of 4 dots

I found I would miss a four dot pattern towards the start or end of a line for some reason
On the day the sheets are clear and well spaced
Can’t remember how many lines down but in the early 20s I’d guess

I think it’s also important to be consistent over the 5 pages of the test so a similar number of lines with least number of errors per page across the whole test

I think I was completing 10 to 12 Lines each page / 2 minutes so around 12 seconds per line give or take

At the end of each page:
Look away briefly from the sheets Take a deep breath Reset and go for the next page Repeat x4

If I’m remembering correctly the say Change at the end of each 2 minutes and off you go on the next sheet

It’s not designed to be completed

I printed sheets from the GB tool on this forum as well as buying a few books and would just do something every day leading up to the tests

Did my tests about 4 years back
Paid for the software for all 3 computer tests two weeks before
Practiced all three and went in as prepared as I could be.

In my opinion well worth the outlay.

The Grey Square and two handed test were great. The pictures were always a bit touch and go but got better with practice and I passed on the day.

Others however say they just went with the practice papers sent out by OPC.
Thanks mate, assessment day was last week, think I did ok but yet to hear back, appreciate your response though.

I attend on Wednesday last week they said to me it would be at least 7days for a response. Haven’t received any response yet either
I received email earlier on saying I had passed the assessments and they would be in touch with the next stage. So hopefully not too long for yourself

Hi just looking for guidance on the MMI, just did my DMI and feel like it went well. I prepared myself to answer a lot of the typical questions you’d be asked. Did a bit of research on scotrail itself and feel like it helped. How can I best prepare myself for the MMI when I get there and what kind of questions are likely to be asked. I’ve seen some posts saying it will last a couple hours…

Has anyone had a really long wait for DMI results ? My DMI was 7 weeks ago tomorrow and have sent a couple of emails asking and had nothing in return. Not sure if that’s a good or bad sign as usually no news is good news but seeing others get a quick result has me wondering.

Out of interest, does anyone know of scotrail will begin recruiting again next year or will they just draw more applications from the cohort who applied this year?

I know a lot of March 2024 applicants, Some have went through the full process extremely quickly whithin weeks , and some have had to wait months in-between stages It's completely bizarre how they operate. I sent emails regarding a separate issue but never had a response, and also have a landline number for the recruitment team but they never answer and ends up going to voicemail

I chased them up last week for a second time after waiting 5 weeks when I was told I would hear back after 2. They didn’t bother to reply to my email just sent a generic not met the standards email and that was it. I didn’t find the process very professional. They only gave me 3 and a half days notice to attend the interview and on the day they were running late and I felt like they couldn’t wait to rush me through it. Fingers crossed you get a better outcome

sorry to hear that. I believe you have to wait 6 months to try again so hopefully you have a better experience next time. Have you logged into the application portal ? My application is still there saying this application is under furthered consideration following an interview. It has said that since the day of the interview

Does anyone know if scotrail use the references on the application form you submitted or do they request the reference information when they send the disclosure Scotland stuff.

Cheers

They request it again, they asked me for references after I submitted my certificate of basic disclosure.

Off topic slightly on this question.
What was the dispute yesterday as to why some drivers weren't working their rest days. I thought it was a lot of them took it off for the cup final but was told it was a dispute and that was it, no details.

There's no dispute. Just people taking their days off either because they want to watch the cup final or don't want the hassle of working during it. Some of the publics behaviour yesterday on the trains around Glasgow was truly disgraceful, I'm not surprised people didn't want overtime.

My opinion is if you don’t want to work your day off then that’s totally up to you. They shouldn’t be condemned for not working it. It’s shocking the amount of bad press drivers get, this is why right now there is a massive recruitment drive to solve the issue. Recruiting more drivers will solve the problem of having to ask current drivers to work OT on their rest days.

I sat my medical on 10th September. I also had to pay for additional tests privately to prove my laser eye surgery is stable and to standard. I've heard nothing back from Scotrail since. So I emailed Optima Health and they confirmed everything had been sent back to the Recruitment Team. I've emailed them to enquire about the next stage last week but so far no reply. I'm getting a bit nervous now as I have a provisional start date of 14th November and I'll need to sort my notice out in a couple of weeks

For anyone who applied in March and passed the online tests but heard nothing since, I’ve just had an email to say the recruitment process is still ongoing and they will be in touch in the new year. Might be worth checking your inbox. There’s still some hope for us!

Does anyone know how the 6 month DMI resit actually works? I sat mine 22nd of October and haven’t heard a thing back despite sending a few emails asking. My application still says ‘under further consideration following an interview’ but I am resigned to the fact I have probably not made it through and they just haven’t got round to telling me. Would it just be the case of emailing and asking for another go at it?

I have my DMI on the 21st of this month, has anyone had one recently and got any information on questions asked? I have a friend within ScotRail who has given me some info but just trying to be as best prepared as possible.

I was in the same position in October having had the DMI in early August. I was reasonably certain that I hadn't made it, but received no confirmation either way until I Emailed Matheus at the end of September ; after a couple of days I received a response indicating my suspicions were correct but that I was welcome to re-enter the process after waiting 6 months from the date of the interview, which falls next month at the earliest.

Can I ask folk who've mentioned being able to check their application status online - is there a log-in / account system to be able to do this? I've tried looking both at the apply.scotrail and main Scotrail website but can't find an obvious registration link.

Edited to add :
Scratch the last request - I did a simple search and the login link was already in my browser (!) - didn't think of this previously.

How many times did you email afterwards can I ask ? I have sent 3 and haven’t had one reply.

Just the once after waiting for almost 2 months. I suspect that it'll be down to the huge numbers of candidates involved again - and you've also not been helped by the Christmas season as a big chunk of your current wait.

Another way of looking at it is that your account status says that you're still active in the process, which is more than I am at the moment - I would focus on being positive and hoping that it's just a brief pause before you're processed onto the next step.
