Alstom, the UK’s leading supplier of new trains and train services, will be opening its historic Derby factory to the public for the first time in 2025 to host an unprecedented event in celebration of Railway 200.

The Greatest Gathering will see the largest temporary assembly of rolling stock and railway-related exhibits in a generation, all coming together for three fun-filled days across the vast estate of Derby Litchurch Lane Works.

In partnership with the wider industry and heritage operators, The Greatest Gathering promises to showcase iconic vehicles from the past, present and future of Britain’s railways – delighting thousands of enthusiasts of all ages, while inspiring the rail pioneers of the future.

Alongside displays of historic and modern, mainline locomotives, Britain’s biggest rail celebration will also feature rides along Derby’s test track, a variety of miniature trains in operation and layouts staged by some of the biggest names in model railways. Fairground attractions, refreshment areas and live music will also add to the festival feel.

Derby Litchurch Lane is one of the world’s largest rolling stock factories, and the only UK facility that designs, engineers, builds and tests trains for domestic and export markets. The factory was opened by the Midland Railway in 1876 and the city of Derby has been building trains continually since 1839.

Not exactly off to a smooth start. Constant 502 Bad Gateway errors clearly from the demand.

Yep can't get anywhere near the website just 502 bad gateway. Hardly a Taylor Swift concern, surprised it can't cope!

Looking at the sort of events Mortons usually sell for, I suspect they've never had to do anything with this much demand. I've managed to get to the basket again but it decided I wanted three tickets this time - so I've had to start over in a different browser as removing tickets once again crashed it.

It doesn't help that doing literally anything seems to crash it and it's very selective about what it remembers. It'll remember you adding a ticket (so you end up with multiple tickets when you try again) but won't remember you removing one!

Clearly Mortons have not paid for a big enough server / database / whatever to cope with the demand. Just wait.

Now I keep getting ‘page not secure’ for both Alstom and Mortons ticket site.

Not a very promising start, seems pricey too

Even in these inflationary times I did raise an eyebrow slightly at £31 inc. booking fee.

Look like Alstom are deducting all of the costs of putting on this event from the revenue before donating what's left to charity.

Isn’t that what all companies do?
Exactly same as DRS do.

I was looking at the 3 day pass being local to Derby at £75

I don’t think the price is outrageous considering this event is supposed to be the largest such event in a very long time.

I now can't get near the website, keep getting told its unsafe and chucked out. This is both via mobile data, work wifi and home wifi.

I have apparently managed to purchase a ticket after much fighting. By that I mean I have a receipt and confirmation number but no ticket!

Just about to post the same!
Took payment, email receipt, but nothing else.
Website then confirmed booking, asked if I wanted to create account, but then blocked from going further.

I suspect fulfilment will be slow much like everything else. But I've taken a photo of the confirmation number in case nothing arrives within the next couple of hours.

Did any of you who succeeded have to circumnavigate the site unsafe blockers?
I did mine on laptop, mobiles wouldn’t let me, didn’t have to avoid blockers on laptop, only after the booking confirmation did it come up stating unsafe, as shown in pic on post #24

I don't know... I'm just making the point that the costs of putting on this event are likely to be high - hence the admission rates. Even so, I still think that at £31 (inc. payment fee) it becomes unaffordable for some.
