It's generally ridiculous to award goals on the basis of no intent at all. The keeper was beaten by the quick thinking and skill of Donley, who surely deserves credit for that. It's nothing to do with the goal being scored by a lower league team.

The shot hit the crossbar and bounced down and away from the goal before the backpedaling goalkeeper knocks it into the goal.
Intent has nothing to do with it, if the goalkeeper wasn’t there, Donley wouldn’t have scored so the goal isn’t his.

Yes, but managers normally have some of the big guns on the bench in case things go wrong (eg City yesterday has Stones, Bernardo, de Bruyne etc). Liverpool didn’t and it serves them right

A query. Can any football team in the top two English divisions turn down a request to take part in the FA Cup competition if.....
(A) ... They are a side already involved in a major European competition
(B) ... They are an English Championship side that have much to gain financially by being promoted to the top level of the English game.

No. Aside from Manchester United about 20 years ago, who got special permission from the FA, I believe it's a condition of membership that you participate in the designated competition(s) unless given dispensation not to. The only recent case of opting out has been Guernsey not taking part in the Trophy because of the expense (and that's imposed by the FA).

The FA Cup is pretty much a reserve team competition nowadays.

Well it's a good thing Liverpool apparently don't care about the Carabao Cup Final's significance to their wider season. Because from where I'm looking, the team that's 8 points clear in the Premier League and the last 16 of the Champion's League now has to beat Newcastle in a Wembley final to secure a treble. But before they even get there, they have to navigate a series of five Premier League games in quick succession (12th, 16th, 19th, 23rd, 26th February), the last of which is arguably the second easiest, a home fixture against Newcastle. Wow.

York City are in a strong position after beating Woking 3-0 yesterday. Now only 4 points behind Barnet, but with two games in hand. The upcoming game between the two sides could have a big say in who goes up.

If there is anyone on this forum who hasn't yet been to the new LNER stadium, and has it on their list of stadiums to go to, feel free to send me a message as we may be able to arrange meeting up before or after the game. Or perhaps we have some York City regulars lurking here?

Also, who plays football here? I just mean recreationally; simply playing with mates down the park or at your local sports centre counts! I know @CaptainHaddock has a weekly walking football session (in Dore?), but that's all I know of who are regular posters*. There must be more!

A good win for Darlo on Saturday:

Darlington 3 v Marine 1 - Cedric Main was back from injury and score twice. Without him we lack a real goal threat. We only named 4 subs including 2 kids who arrived in on loan on Friday. One of our players who we secured on loan for the rest fo the season was apparently on trial at Stockport so couldn't play for us!

No. Aside from Manchester United about 20 years ago, who got special permission from the FA,

Darlington got the "lucky loser" ticket and played Villa at Villa park. We lost 3-1 at Gillingham in round 2. I bet they were pleased to draw Walsall away! we bumped into many of thier fans at New Street and there was lots of good natured joshing about the situation!

GIllingham had the last laugh - they got to the 6th round were Chelsea thrashed them.

Lots of money behind York this season or at least money spent better this season! They are going well and should go up.

We got knocked out the FA Cup by an Offside goal on Friday, still it's more important for us to stay in the league at the minute, it's pleasing that Liverpool and Chelsea have been knocked out as well and Leeds too so not all bad!
