It depends on the quality of the GOP modification which, unless I’m mistaken, takes place after unit acceptance.
One possibility is that before the GOP panel was fitted the water would not have been seen running down behind a wall panel. So maybe the leak is long standing. After fitment there is new access to view a hidden area.

I think it has something to do with the vents collecting water and the leaking point just happens to be above the GOPs.

Doesn't exactly inspire confidence given that IIRC many (all?) units had to go back to the factory for rectification after delivery.
. it's constant issue after issue
It doesn't surprise me that issues are being discovered as the miles are (slowly) being accumulated. Likely more things will come to light especially as years in storage won't have done them (the 701s) any favours.

I can remember that in my car if the scuttle drain (leading down from the water collection area at the foot of the windscreen) got blocked the water would build up and find its way in through the ventilation fan !. The scuttle drain just lead to the void between the inner and outer wings. The water sometimes came into the cabin via the forward door pillar if the door seal was not quite sealing properly !.

So it might be an expected water exit route that is now occupied by electronics. After all water is good at finding its way into things especially when helped by gravity and lack of use. But being 701s nothing would surprise me !.

Please don't tell me that someone found a conveniently located hole when doing the modifications and decided to use it to run the wires through...?

I thought the GOPs were installed at the time of construction? AIUI all new build trains have to be built to be both DOO and conventionally dispatched so they were always planned to 2 GOPs. Even the TL 700s have GOPs and I very much doubt they’ll see guard dispatch.

I thought the GOPs were installed at the time of construction?
If that is the case then it would seem to be either a build problem, or slightly more worryingly, a design issue?

AFAIK, although I haven't paid as much attention to them, none of the other Aventra fleets have reported water ingress at the GOPs so this problem appears to be 701 specific.

When I watched BBC ‘Inside the Factory’ on the 345 build, each carriage when assembled when through a sort of ‘car wash’ style piece of equipment where it was soaked in water for a period of time, this was to check for water ingress, I would assume all other builds at Derby would go through the same process?

Old and new at Reading today.
Image shows 701 046 in platform 6, having arrived on a test run, while 455 860 is in platform 5, forming the rear unit of the 11:09 to Waterloo.

This one is 701034. Just seen it.
Was wondering between it and 701044 which was out too when I was passing. Thanks

If anyone sees unit 701039 can you confirm if its been named. I'm sure in thread maybe I've missed this(I know this is unimportant for some :D).

Just saw 701039. It says “Ace” next to the Arterio logo at the end.

There really is no limit to the depths of naffness that SWR will go to, is there?

The lack of self-awareness (on top of the multitude of issues with the introduction) is absolutely astonishing.

You missed one. It was actually the re re re relaunch ;)
Isn't "re re re re relaunch" the noise made by a compressor on a class 455?

A recent SWR tag line for the 701 was "Your commute just got better" which amusingly they virtually stole from my small "computer" business in Worcester Park. I have been using it since 2004. Hopefully I have put a stop to them using it again.

Waterloo had visits from 017 039 037 031 043 036 this morning! Not sure that they are working now! Probably gone back to sleep!

It will be more of a shock now if we actually see a new unit in the rotation.

Guess those February diagrams are incredibly unlikely if there is still no variation outside of 6 regular units?

Unless sarcasm, good luck with that!
Your xxx just got better isn't exactly a unique advertising slogan.
