Because they’re a designer and not a rail enthusiast?
Possibly!

Probably like me and many others, they had no idea there was a difference!
Fair point.

Looka like it was made with Train Sim World's livery designer in which case it was using the version of the 170 that is in the game
That would make sense :)

170101 looks good inside with the new seats. They look very skinny in design.
Jacob, do they look like seats that are the same (in terms of the basic design, not the trim / any extra features) as those fitted to any other classes of train? And can you tell us anything else about the interior? :)

Unless they've changed the spec since what they published, the seats are the FISA LEAN which is used on all UK FLIRTs and the Class 196.

Ah thanks - I thought they might have been those, as they're the same make/model specified for the East Midlands Railway 170 refurbishment (which I understand to be related to the CrossCountry one).

The cab drivers seats have been changed. The overall appearance looks to be good. I haven't been inside and probably won't to be honest as it's not my kettle of fish.

If they've gone for a thinner than usual cushion the legroom may be OK, here's hoping...
The seat backs are thinner in comparison to the old seats.

I can confirm that the seats are definitely skinny compared to what they are now on the non refurb 170s because I had another look today.

I quite like the look of 170101 now. It's looking smart. The number has been added now on the front ends.

The X being white instead makes the cream doors make less sense!
Rather agree, doing a Northern and putting them in the same silver as the body side or white like the large X would have worked better. The cream colour looks like a random splurge on the colour palate.

Just seen 170112 passing Wolverhampton heading North. Assume this is the next one?

Kudos to XC for putting large, visible-from-a-distance, visible-at-speed signage on the doors for cycles and wheelchairs. The previous livery had tiny grey decals that were basically impossible to see unless you were next to the door and the train was stationary.

Looks good, and more red than pink.

Echo thoughts that white doors would work better than cream doors.

Quite smart, a bit like Greater Anglia livery in parts

Has the bike space been moved to be behind one of the cabs then?

Yes. Mixed used wheelchair/bike space is now verboten. It's behind the 79 car cab on the drivers side.
I get the Bike space, but it seems a bit odd to move the wheelchair space away from the large toilet, unless they’ve created two areas for wheelchairs and the like?
