InterdecksWhat type of buses will be used on the 787?
I was attempting to say that the 787 would offer a direct Kinross P&R to the airport, as opposed to Ember where you can buy a bus ticket to Ingliston P&R, that includes tram travel to the airport, but then..This new 787 will not stop at the Ingliston P&R tram stop so its not competition with Ember.
... if the flow is not particularly big then my comment is no longer valid lol.Not sure the Edinburgh Airport - Kinross flow is particularly big!
From the time period I first started travelling myself by bus, I remember the X53 Dalgety Bay to Edinburgh, and the X57 Kirkcaldy, Dalgety Bay, Edinburgh. The 157 was Kirkcaldy - Dalgety bay - Edinburgh.
Yeah, there have been a few routes from Fife to north Edinburgh but nothing ever really took off. The area has a lot of road traffic but bus services are difficult to operate and generally aren't popular. Nordi ran something a while back too, before they went out of business.Just listing random bus routes now lol, but does anyone remember the daily return from Dunfermline to Leith. I'm sure there was one more service like that too - might have just been the X61 Dunnikier/Chapel to Bristo Square though.
Plaxton Elite Interdeckers. 54278’s already been repainted. What type of buses will be used on the 787?
Stagecoach to launch new bus service between St Andrews and Edinburgh Airport
08 Apr 2025
Stagecoach has announced the launch of an exciting new bus service, providing direct and convenient travel between St Andrews, Guardbridge, Cupar, Auchtermuchty, Kinross and Edinburgh Airport. The new route, JET787, starting on Monday 5th May, aims to improve travel options, offering a fast and affordable alternative to Scotland’s busiest airport.
- New direct route from St Andrews to Edinburgh Airport, running via Cupar and Kinross
- Service will run up to every two hours, including late nights and early mornings
- Coaches on service will feature comfortable seating and luggage storage
The new service, designed to meet the needs of local travellers, commuters, tourists, and students alike, will operate daily, up to every two hours for those looking to connect from Fife and Kinross to Edinburgh Airport.
Journeys on JET787 from St Andrews will take around 90 minutes, with journeys from Kinross lasting around 40 minutes, with passengers being dropped off at the Departures doors of Edinburgh Airport.
The service will also provide additional journeys to the Airport from Halbeath Park & Ride, which is already served up to every 20 minutes, 24/7, by existing Stagecoach service JET747. Other connections are also available at Kinross and Halbeath P&R to connect with Stagecoach’s other services across East Scotland.
The introduction of this new, direct bus service marks a significant milestone for the local community. St Andrews, renowned for its world-class university, historic golf courses, and beautiful coastline, will now be directly connected to one of Scotland’s largest travel hubs.
Sarah Elliott, Commercial Director for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “We are thrilled to introduce this new bus service, demonstrating Stagecoach’s commitment to improving connectivity across the region.
“The new route will make travel between St Andrews and Edinburgh Airport easier, faster, and more affordable. It’s a win for local residents, students, and visitors alike, providing a stress-free option for airport access."
Intending passengers can plan their journey, track live bus times and buy their tickets in advance on the Stagecoach Bus App, with tickets and journey info due to go live in late April.
From Sunday 27th April, our fares will increase in price across Fife, Perth & Kinross, Dundee and Angus.
Revenue from customer fares is vital for covering the daily expenses of running bus services, including inflationary pressures on fuel and maintenance costs which are increasing the cost of operations. Fare revenue also enables continued investment in our people, new vehicles, technology, and customer service improvements and helps to cover additional costs, such as employer National Insurance contribution increases.
Prices of Single, DayReturn, DayRider, Flexi 5, 7 day and 4 week MegaRider, and MegaRider Xtra tickets will increase.
We’ll also be introducing Flexi 10 tickets, offering you a bundle of 10 DayRider tickets (valid for 12 months) for the price of 7 - a 30% saving!
We’re removing 13 week MegaRider tickets, due to the very low sales. Students who currently buy theses can buy 7 or 28 day MegaRider tickets, or Flexi 5/10 tickets on our app instead.
From 27th April, we’ll no longer sell new Smartcards on our buses, which means less plastic, quicker boarding and less waiting. You’ll be able to buy all tickets easily on the Stagecoach Bus App instead, and you can still top up your existing smartcard on the bus too. All Stagecoach tickets, including NightRider tickets, will be available on our app from this date.
Don’t forget, those aged 21 and under, 60 and over or disabled, can take advantage of free travel on all our services, when presenting a valid National Entitlement Card (NEC) to the driver.
Call me a cynic but I can’t see this working. It just seems a strange route when you put it altogether. The company has put out a press release about the new 787 service, it does mention on how it will improve connection around Howe of fife, ie local passengers from Auchtermuchty to Kinross and St Andrews etc
Seems to be mainly with St Andrews University Students primarily in mind as the main customer base, since most of the University's enrollment are foreign students who fly home during the semester breaks, can't lie, I am surprised its not a service that only operates at certain times of the year (over the Christmas break and through the summer) but given the amount of holidays throughout the year celebrated by the various cultures that make up the student body of St Andrews, I can see it potentially being fairly busy. If not it will probably at least break even.Call me a cynic but I can’t see this working. It just seems a strange route when you put it altogether.
Extending the 747 hourly to Kinross might have been worth considering, then a separate local bus between Kinross and St Andrews. As a whole route though? I can’t understand it. Local users will be put off by the use of interdecks, so Stagecoach are clearly going for the Park and Ride and Airport traffic.
Likely recently departed Elites that were replaced by the 9700’s.I've just seen 3 or 4 yellow Stagecoach coaches stopped in a layby on the A1 eastbound near Wallyford, I assume these are from East Scotland but does anyone know why they're there? They don't seem to be tracking on Bustimes.
Couldn't tell you which ones specifically, but 4 of them left Arbroath mid-morningLikely recently departed Elites that were replaced by the 9700’s.
From what I heard they were up for sale, they wouldn't be a bad option for a small operator needing buses for school service work given they are relatively young, and can still manage a couple hours of work a day without a refurbishment, plus they are Euro6, so they can even go into the cities. Can't imagine they will ever see regular service work or even private hires without a major overhaul. Are these off for scrap or are they going to be crap and unreliable at another depot? Somewhere else? I mean I can't imagine anybody wanting them as they are hammered
They haven't been delivered yet, so zero chance of that happeningDoes anyone have a rough timescale for when the 747 BZLs will be entering service? I figured it’d make sense for them to do so tomorrow what with the 787 launch, but seeing as there hasn’t been any recent mention of them in this thread I’d assume otherwise.
I didn't know that the 747 are getting BZLs, how many are coming for them? And is it just the single deck ones they're getting?
I must have missed this one, but who's due 76121-126?Dunfermline are due six BZLs (76127-76132), numerically in advance of the Dundee/St Andrews batch for the 99 (76133-76148).
Western on Arran.I must have missed this one, but who's due 76121-126?
Ah, of course - thanks.Western on Arran.
Any idea where the 6 due imminently for Arbroath fit in to the sequence?Western on Arran.
Didn't some say that Arran was a mistype, with these buses intended for Arbroath?Any idea where the 6 due imminently for Arbroath fit in to the sequence?
That would certainly make more senseDidn't some say that Arran was a mistype, with these buses intended for Arbroath?
The Arran contract is currently out for tender with a fleet of new SPT owned diesel buses part of the specification, so it would be very surprising if Stagecoach had decided to order some new electric buses for an island that I doubt could currently support the required charging infrastructure!Didn't some say that Arran was a mistype, with these buses intended for Arbroath?
Didn't some say that Arran was a mistype, with these buses intended for Arbroath?
When are the 99 replacements due? I’ve noticed the usual fleet disappearing and replaced with even older buses these days, sad as it’s now £9 to go between St Andrews and Dundee
As soon as the charging infrastructure is finished being built! Yes the BZLs will be the staple diet on the 72 with a few E400EVs mixed inWhen will Arbroath’s 16 E400EVs and 5 BZLs enter service? And I’m assuming the BZLs will be on the 72?
