Hi, welcome to the forum.

You can post your proposed email here if you would like people to proofread it for you. There's guidance from Hadders on what to say on many threads here but I can't post it because I'm on my phone.

Here is a recent Hadders pro-forma, relating to Chiltern but otherwise apposite:

I suggest writing a short, concise reply mentioning the following:

- That you are sorry for what has happened
- What you have learned from the incident
- That you are keen to settle the matter without the need for court action
- Offer to pay the outstanding fare and Chiltern's administrative costs in dealing with the matter
SE could prosecute the OP here, but usually constructively engaging with the rail company will eventually result in an out of court settlement. That route is notorious for short fares so the OP can expect their travel history to be checked.

Short and concise is best. Don't use waffle that's not relevent. If you read other threads in this section you'll get the idea.

Dear Southeastern Team,

I am writing in relation to your letter dated 8th May 2025 regarding the incident on 26th April 2025, reference number xxxxxxxx

First,I wanted to apologize.I fully understand the seriousness of this.

On 26th april i was traveling from Greenwich to Dartford,I was foolish to have a non-valid ticket.I fully acknowledge that this was wrong.I was stopped and questioned by officers on dartford.I nervously answered them.I seriously understand the impact fare invasion has on railway industry and I deeply regret my actions.

Again,I would like to aplogize for the tension i have occured.I am prepared to pay any administrative fee and appropriate fee that cost SOUTHEASTERN TEAM.I regret my actions and i am willing to settle this out of court.

Best to not use American spelling and put in spaces after , and .

It's not for you to tell them you are willing to settle out of court, that is their decision. You need to ask them if it is possible for them to offer you an out of court settlement. In most cases they will.

Is that what you really meant to write?

What do I mean by what? Your draft is full of American spellings and is poorly punctuated. replying like this will not rule out a settlement, but the less the effort you put into your reply, the less favourably it is likely to be considered.

My second paragraph is, I think, self explanatory.

I've made a few suggestions: I've struck through (like this) things that I think you should get rid of, and added in italics (like this) things that I think you should add (n.b. - click where it says 'click to expand' to see everything)

There are various bits of the layout that you should tidy up, and if you can it might be worth running the whole thing through a spell checker. But I hope that Southeastern will agree to let you settle out of court with the revised letter.
