How is that possible when people are still waiting to do their assessment?

Really? I thought everyone was still waiting. I received an email about 2 weeks ago apologising for the delay due to high demand and i would receive an email soon to see if i made it through to interview. When did you receive this email?

Good luck for the interview. Be calm. If you have an interview it mean you already did the biggest part of the job. Even more because you are one of the first they choose to keep. Could you tell me which date you passed the first assesement please ?

How is that possible when people are still waiting to to their assessment?

To do
Its a good think they start the next stage. Iam fed up to wait and start to feel more kind to accept other vacancy I have apply for. I don't want to miss opportunities for a job I will finally not get.

If people clearly pass the benchmark by a significant margin (e.g. 100%) there’s no need to wait for everyone else to finish the assessments. TfL does a lot of this ‘High Volume’ rolling recruitment, internally and externally.

It’s entirely possible for people to be at different stages.

Incidentally - and I’ve definitely said this before too - constantly posting for updates on a forum and getting angsty about the role isn’t going to help you. If you have other job opportunities you should always pursue them - TfL recruitment can be slow, and it may well be that the roles are filled internally anyway.

Similarly, as with most railway jobs, this is a role that commands a high level of patience. If you can’t demonstrate that in the application process this absolutely isn’t the job for you.

with all due respect How come you keep saying “this job is not for you” it really discourages people even completing the process some people might want a fast process or updates, this is normal for any recruitment hence this is a forum where people discuss and share information to better themselves

I agree. Even more because its not about patience but doing thé right thing. We cannot all afford to stay without working even more if we have other propositions. Who will feed m'y kids ? I just have to do thé best for me and m'y familly. I understand tfl position. This is life.

What is a benchmark by a significant margin? Its about thé assement or is it a good rate of the test?

Totally agree. The whole point of this forum or any forum on here be it Signaller etc is to openly discuss the role with others. Not sure constantly posting “this isn’t the role for you” is helpful when all people are doing is trying to get information and a bit of clarity as the job is clearly a role a lot of people on here are excited about. If some of us don’t pass the benchmark and get an interview then so be it, but i think we’re allowed to all be able to openly discuss the role without getting shut down

For example if the benchmark is like 60 and you get like 85 and up you passed the benchmark by a lot

Hi, yes I received the email for interview, I’m assuming after I did the first assessment and passed they checked the CV and offered me an interview

How is that possible when people are still waiting to do their assessment?
I have no idea but definitely have an interview

Yes I also received the same email apologising for the delay, then I received the email for the interview last week, so I have booked the interview for the end of the month

Goo

You as a candidate may “want a fast process or updates”, but the process is at it is (and other areas of railway recruitment are slower!).

I think the suggestion being made was that you may therefore be better off looking at something else/pursuing other opportunities if you don’t find the process acceptable or aren’t prepared to wait.

That seems pretty sensible advice to me.

We cannot all afford to stay without working even more if we have other propositions.

If you aren’t currently working and have “other propositions” you should surely follow those, and certainly shouldn’t pass them up for something that might not come off.

Surely that’s the same as any recruitment process; nothing is guaranteed until you’ve been offered and accepted the job, passed medical and references etc.

The guys that have progressed to interview, have you all got previous control experience?

Or just worked in other roles within railway etc?

Yes Blurry. I have 20 years of Control experience across all different industries including Rail, crime and disorder etc. Hoping that goes in my favour but we will see

Oh sorry, thought you were asking me. Didn’t realise you were asking for people on interview stage

Just in general. The guys that have no control experience, have they got any chance in the CV checking stage?

You have asked this on several occasions now. The simple answer is that we do not now and only the hiring managers will be able to make this call.

Not sure where you’ve heard that from! Most entry roles into controller (normally info control types or passenger assist roles) are around £30-35K at most operators. TfL roles obviously have a London premium and can also be more intense.

This is a figure told to a foi request I shall quote it here This role is a Q3 grade and staff are paid within the salary range of £60,000 – £84,999. Correct my self I was 4 grand off

Also for everyone here I want to remind you of the job spec you don’t need any control room experience but transferable skills are what they are gonna look at as I will quote below so don’t be discouraged when u don’t have the experience in a control room you have every chance of landing the job as the next guy hence why the 8 weeks of training exists.

  • Ability to apply a customer perspective to all aspects of work and activities. (essential)
  • Ability to interpret information from a range of sources, prioritise messages and deliver information quickly to a wide audience. (essential)
Strong communication skills, able to tailor communications to meet the needs of different internal and external customers both formally and informally.
    (essential)
Ability to work under pressure and to cope with the extremes of activity within a Control Centre as the operational railway dictates. (essential)
  • Ability to monitor, report and act on issues impacting asset reliability (e.g. lifts & escalators)
  • Ability to use various software packages. (essential)
  • Ability to maintain accurate written records and work with a high level of accuracy.
Experience

Experience of managing and prioritising communications. (essential)

Experience of working as part of a team. (desirable)

Previous experience of working in a customer focused environment. (desirable)

With respect this shows a lack of understanding. The Q3 grade exists as a pay band which covers numerous jobs at L.U.L., you do not move up the pay band within this role. Pay rises will be as per the annual negotiated pay rise with the unions.

This is what TfL have said about the role so I am not wrong

Can you tell me the annual salary for a Operations Control Operator- London Underground?

Please note, we believe this request relates to the Operations Control Officer role in the London Underground Control Centre.

You said “I heard for a control room this is low”.

And I am simply stating that £60K is in no way “low” for an entry level, control role.

You are misrepresenting the FOI - they have simply stated the salary for the role falls within that range. It is not on a rising pay scale or anything like that.

It's low for a TfL control role yes, but not for an entry level control role generally.
