Was there on 27/03/2025 and i feel for quite a while before.

I recall it being said that they are all grounded.
I heard the same thing, something about the position of the battery and being close to the cab, can't remember what the reason was but it was something along those lines.

As in they are electrically earthed or they aren't to be moved?
I think it was because the fuel tank is close to the cab door and could cause the driver to be trapped if it caught fire. So staff are not using them.

Last i heard, the ACTUAL reason they weren't being used on NR yards was a union concern issue barring their use. I forget the specific concern/s

Seen in this Youtube video:
Wowzers, many thanks DBS92042 - and Peter Sarf for the additional notes.

Really helps me to get a netter understanding of the layout.

Looks like I'll be visiting the Kia dealership and LIDL periodically over the next few months, but not the canal path until the leaves come down again in the autumn.

And I too won't shed any tears if that "small pesky brick building" is removed - by any means fair or foul.

I am wondering about vegetation. The main culprit seems to be Ivy maybe - which is evergreen. So its not worth worrying about seasons just the onward march of the stuff year-on-year,

I took a drive to Wolverton today, 18001, 4 and 11 are visible from aldi. I took a walk from the abandoned works gate and saw the single loco between the works buildings. Any idea which one this is? Didn’t see the other 4 together in the line. Cheers

Gosh, what sort of lens are you using to get all three from ALDI ?.
Or have they moved from adjacent to that low brick outhouse ?.
Otherwise I usually get one or two of those three from behind the car dealership.

This abandoned works gate - where ?.

The other four are barely visible from the canal towpath. I have been wondering if a step ladder would help there ?.
On my previous visits there have maybe only been three, two, one or none there.

I used the Wolverton drone footage on YouTube for the IDs. The 3 in view from Adli he zooms in so the numbers can be seen. The 4 in the canal line are 5, 10, 13 but can’t id the 4th From the footage. If you could the one on its own will be known. There‘s an old gate next to quick fit. seems abandoned

Also I went to Eastleigh and the two are still visible with binoculars

Ah.

Be very careful.

They seem to move the class 18s around in Wolverton.

For example back on 21/01/2025, when I visited, I could see no 18s were over by the canal. Also the 18001 in the video (25/03/2025) and seen by me on 24/03/2025 was in the space occupied by 18010 back on 21/01/2025.

That was two months apart with changes both sides. So now, two months later again, I would expect things to have changed again.

I know what you’re saying. There’s another drone video from 2 days ago Which is the day I went. You can compare between the two Videos. There are small differences between locos. 5 has a missing beacon logo from the black sole bar and locos have different sticker positioning on fuel tanks etc. 001 has different increments on the fuel tank altogether. I’m confident that at least the 3 visible are the same.

Can you provide a link to the latest video ?.
You certainly have been watching out for detail differences that are useful.

BTW - where did you view the pair of 18s at Eastleigh from ?.
Some seem to view a long way off from the road bridge but I feel there might be a view from behind the houses at more or less right angles to the 18s.

. Hope the link works. If it doesn’t search Wolverton class 18. I viewed the 2 Eastleigh ones from the bridge. Was in a rush so didn’t try the houses.

Do they move around at all?
For the two at Eastleigh, a resonable view is obtained by going over the railway bridge and a few yards down the road towards the first (disused) gate. They can be seen (with binoculars) well in the far distance outside the test house, but beware, rolling stock is frequently moved around and the view is not always avaliable!
Attached is a very grotty picture with long zoom, taken Saturday 31.05.25:

That photo gives a good indication of how well hidden the class 18s at Eastleigh works can be. Just replace those wagons in front of the class 43 with coaches and the 18s are hidden !.

I do not think the 18s at Eastleigh ever move as all photos I have seen show them in front of those roller shutters.

Looking through images and videos, the one on its own is 18008. It’s not moved much between the 2 videos ( the marks on the buffers are identical) The line by the canal are 5, 13, 9 and 10

No, those two at Eastleigh have not moved much, but shortly after they arrived, they were partly inside the test shed, still visible, with the roller shutter doors open.

When they were first at Eastleigh you could often find them in the north yard, where the 08s normally hang out. They initially moved about in the yard quite a bit, then went off to the works, ironic given they are now work shy.
