My wife and I maybe booking a ticket from Newcastle to York soon, as part of a longer journey. It'll be on a Sunday.

There are two options at about the same time (see the image)

LNER (08:55) at £34.60 and TPE (08:59) at £26.60, both very reasonable for first class.

Last Sunday, we travelled on the TPE to Leeds and the service was excellent, with a lovely 'full English' breakfast, served very soon after we left NCL I would give it 9.5 out of 10

However, we like to arrive at Newcastle station early, on the Tyne & Wear Metro, so travelling with LNER would let us wait in their first-class lounge. Furthermore, we'll have another 30 minutes to wait in York, so once again we could visit the lounge there too. I am not even sure whether we would actually get any food on the LNER train. Last year we travelled from York to Newcastle and only got a coffee.

Which would folk here pick .. LNER or TPE

You will need to take into account that the service you get in First class on a Sunday isn't likely to be the same as on a weekday.

TPE, it’s cheaper and you’ll get more onboard
Yes, that's what I was thinking .. although my wife likes the LNER lounges.

Our travel date is actually Sunday 14th September, so the prices then may be much different to the ones shown above. Maybe, that'll help to make up our minds.

We travelled on TPE last Sunday and it was 'top notch'

We travelled LNER to Edinburgh in March and only got a very small bacon butty
