fair enough - that is quite impressiveIt doesn't matter if the odd vehicle has an engine out in passenger service. I think Voyagers can almost keep time on 3/5 although it would be taken out of traffic when suitable.

Unlike the 805s which have replaced them at Avanti. I've been on 805s limping along on one engine on many occasions.fair enough - that is quite impressive

I’ve ridden a few like that. Weirdly quiet in that vehicle but as they cross feed all HVAC and lighting works as normal from what I recall.fair enough - that is quite impressive
I’m surprised that family of trains never had the eco-power treatment like the 185s. Say shutting an engine or two down in areas of less gradient.Agreed. Ours (not actually called Voyagers but the same family) can indeed stay in service with three running because they’re so over engined. Keeping time is generally possible with four, but gets a little bit more marginal with three.
There’s still few things more annoying than keying into a cab and finding you’re down an engine or two.
It’s part of the reason they’re so reliable.
Are Voyagers still running on the odd Brum - Leicester service? On the topic of staffing and XC Voyagers, does anyone know why they have been appearing on the odd few Leicester services these past few days, instead of the usual 170s? Particularly in the evenings? Is there a shortage of Senior Conductors?
There were the odd few diagrams which produced a Voyager last week. I think it’s because there’s a Senior Conductor shortage, so it saves cancelling the service. Are Voyagers still running on the odd Brum - Leicester service?
One of the reasons until recently might’ve been that Tilt was only possible with a maximum of one engine downI’m surprised that family of trains never had the eco-power treatment like the 185s. Say shutting an engine or two down in areas of less gradient.
Only an issue with Avanti's (now former) fleet, surely. One of the reasons until recently might’ve been that Tilt was only possible with a maximum of one engine down
The tilt on XC Super Voyagers was disabled in 2008, if tilt was a constraint on finding a more economical way to run their engines then stopped being an issue a long time ago.One of the reasons until recently might’ve been that Tilt was only possible with a maximum of one engine down
Some Voyagers are fitted with IESS, with the rest to be done. Intelligent Engine Shutdown System will shut an engine down if timetable can be maintained. This is a replacement for the DAS system which is being removed.I’ve ridden a few like that. That’s very positive news. DAS is only good for the clockSome Voyagers are fitted with IESS, with the rest to be done. Intelligent Engine Shutdown System will shut an engine down if timetable can be maintained. This is a replacement for the DAS system which is being removed.
Agreed!DAS is only good for the clock
And reasonably accurate mileage.Agreed!
Ah yes, that too!!And reasonably accurate mileage.
