Travelling without railcard and given false details

Hi all, looking for some advice on this situation.
Was caught by RPI with a ticket that had a railcard applied and couldn't produce a railcard (they scanned my QR)
The RPI started bodycam and did an interview saying they expected short faring etc, i gave fake name, DOB, address.
I think it was evident the details were fake as i refused to prove they were real with ID etc after being asked,
I was asked to leave the train, no paperwork was given to me etc, and one of the inspector's mentioned very briefly i would hear off some sort of fraud investigation
how likely is this? whats going to happen? it wasn't really explained properly what would happen at all, i was just kicked off very hastily

the way they just asked me to get off without explaining possible consequences at all etc makes me think they knew it was a waste of their time trying to deal with me?

If they scanned your E Ticket then there is a very high chance that you will hear from them. Which TOC was this? Some are hotter on it than others.

WMT, the reason i thought they might be leaving it is the main guy interviewing me didnt say anything at all about investigation, just wanted me off the train, was the other guy who mentioned it very briefly just before i stepped off

Which Railcard was it?

If it's WMT then the chances of them a) tracking you and b) going through your previous bookings with a fine tooth comb are quite high.

@traindog1. Welcome to the forum. It's a fair question that @enyoueffsea has just asked about you ever holding a valid, in date, railcard. Will inspection of your online ticket purchasing history show multiple other occasions of you having purchased tickets with an inappropriately applied railcard discount?

West Midlands Trains are highly likely to obtain your details from the ticket retailer and contact you about this incident.

Do you possess a valid railcard? If WMT check your ticket purchasing history will it show you've purchased other railcard discounted tickets?

It will go down very badly if they think you’ve deliberately mislead them and provided a false address when they compare the address given to the one on your account. Very bad decision making on your behalf. I guess they’d be far less willing to offer any kind of settlement, depending on what their investigation shows.

Not necessarily, WMT almost always offer to settle if the OP engages with them.

The do, however, need to realise that having already deliberately lied to them, their word will count for nothing and they are far less likely to accept any mitigation or genuine reasons for short faring etc. They simply won't believe the OP now.

i actually do have a valid legit railcard, just wasnt on me. im thinking worst case scenario they write to me, and i can prove i do actually have a railcard so any prior railcard discounted trips are legitimate, and then im assuming ill just get fined for this journey where it wasn't in my possesion, as it was for all my previous trips

If you have a valid railcard but forget it then the train company will not normally take any further action as long as you are able to send a copy of it to them when they contact you.

By giving false details you've made the situation worse. Probably not impossible to keep out of court but harder than it needed to be.

You are allowed to forget your Railcard once per year. If you haven't already done this, you can simply state that you have a Railcard and had forgotten it, and that you wish to use you allowance for forgetting your Railcard on this occasion.

ah ok interesting and yep i havent forgotten it before, so if they write to me i should mention this, and maybe ill get fined for the one journey but the other railcard journeys will be fine? (as i do have one and can prove ive had it for a long time)

If they accept that simply forgot your Railcard then they will be no penalty to pay. This is what you should do if and when they do contact you.

Post any email you receive on here with personal details redacted and the experts will let you know how to correctly respond
