Update on 168004 as of (7/5/25):

Much of the insides have been removed and it's being rubbed down ready for the paint shop.

168004 has been stripped to it's bear minimum now. It looks naked haha.

Paths for a Crewe/Banbury swap are in for tomorrow. Will 168001 finally be returning, or will it be 004 already?

In other news, 168108 which was covering for a 68 this morning, broke at High Wycombe, and looks as though it will be skated back to Aylesbury, based on how long the ECS move is planned to take.

168004 is no where near ready. It's been stripped out and ready for painting as well. Probably 168001 because that's almost ready.

Is it definitely running? I don't think there is any 168s on Banbury depot to run the return.

168001 does seem to have had a protracted time out of service - it's been about to leave Crewe for months! :)

Looks like they’re giving it another go today - fingers crossed!

Edit: Now cancelled

Edit: Looks like neither are running today. 3rd time lucky hopefully!

RTT has 168004 down as in service today, I'm assuming this is a mistake? Either that or I've completely missed it's return!
168003 isn't showing as in service, so it is probably that one allocated wrong.

168004 is in pieces at Crewe depot at the moment.

Looks like 3U68 is running!

3K68 leaves Banbury later so fingers crossed.

I travelled on a refurbished set for the first time, 168003 on 1H62 15.45 Birmingham Moor St to Marylebone on Wednesday, and was impressed with the refurbishment. In particular, the reorientation of the table power points and provision of both USB A and C sockets is a useful improvement. Décor is pleasing and almost makes it appear to be a new train.

If 3K68 does run, it won't be a /0 as both 168002 & 168005 are showing as out today. 168215 or 217 are the only 4 car units not out today and are both at Aylesbury, so presumably it will be a 3 car going next.

Just watched on Railcam. Arrived at Banbury now. Adrian Shooter name is at the top next to the cab door. Wonder when it'll be back in service.

I took a ride to Moor Street last month and can say the outward journey with 168002 was very noisy with excess vibration in the coach I sat. Return with 168106 was a huge improvement! I hadn't realised refurb'd at the time!

168002 goes better than any of them though. From a driver's POV. It's always been the best one to drive.
