We've all heard stories about video games (notably GTA) being capable of causing criminal behaviour or otherwise controversial, but this is ridiculous...
The most ridiculous thing about this though is that the Tanooki suit has been around since SMB3 - in the late 80s. Epic fail on PETA's part
Animal rights activists blast star for wearing fur
[but it's Super Mario (and the fur's virtual, too)]
U.S. animal rights group PETA has seen a sinister side to the plumber's latest colourful adventure, Super Mario 3D Land.
In a statement issued via its website, the controversial group protested that Mario at one point appears to 'wear fur' in a costume in the game - actually a magical suit used to give the character special powers.
In almost every previous Mario game stretching back to the Eighties, Mario has worn costumes that turn him into new creatures such as a giant bee, an underwater Mario or a giant version of himself.
But the raccoon-like 'Tanooki' suit that grants him special powers in Super Mario 3D land appears to have ruffled the fur of the strident American group.
