I notice this on MEN website

Rescue workers are trying to free a bus driver after his vehicle ploughed into the side of a city centre pub.

The double decker ploughed into the Bulls Head on the junction of London Road and Whitworth Street, close to Piccadilly Station, at 11.56am.

The front of the vehicle was severely damaged when it left the road and crashed into the side of the pub.

Fire and ambulance crews raced to the scene and are currently to trying to free the driver who is still trapped in the vehicle's cab.

One fire crew, two ambulances and six police cars are currently at the scene.

It is not yet known what caused the accident or if there were any passengers were onboard at the time of the crash.

London Road and Fairfields Street are currently partially blocked off after the accident.

At least they get the street names right, unlike MEN Media that said it was Witworth St, nooo... Witworth St isn't there, it's Fairfeild St, Garnaby Row and London Road ;)

Couldn't stagecoach run down Canal St and crash into the front of G-A-Y Manchester instead and do us all a favour, (Yes I know you'd need to avoid New Union to get there) Actually, they do run down Princess St don't they?

Yeah, but those that are worth the breath don't enhabit G-A-Y, they tend to be in New Union (that I said should be avoided) or any of the other bars that don't pander to the typical stereotypes to attract semi out, curious, trourists and circus watchers. And having been in there, it's nothing like it's hype thanks to no-one dancing, on a thursday night (typically busy) at 10pm, not serving anything in glass, and having the most pompous and arsey bar staff that try to justify their mistakes even when they clearly are wrong.

It's the bar I want wiping off the face of the earth, will stop the concentration of idiocy into one place and re-distribute it between Mantos, View, Essential, Queer and Crunch like it used to...

(PS. Gays waaayy outnumber straights in this thread anyway.. ;))

Haha I was kidding. I'm proud to say I've never been to G-A-Y :)

Shame about the bus though!

I have, once, never again, £1.50 for half a diet coke that wasn't diet...

Will stick with the boring looking or scary looking places from now on...

Although I don't think taking my mother into Eagle or Outpost will be a perticularly good idea...

One does wonder though, how does a bus end up in that position, unless he was trying to turn down garnaby row, not many routes actually turn left onto Fairfeild St, is was only empty movments from what I remember (making that bus lane right turn thing utterly pointless) at Witworth St / Fairfeild St

Not been to a gay bar, I've heard they're quite sleazy.
And as for the bus, well what else can you expect from Slavecoach? ;)

And the date... oh it's Friday the 13th! And the landlord was expecting a party of 13! Coincidence? I think not!

Only if we get him to sign a disclaimer.

Any damaged caused is not the responsibility directly or indirectly of members of this forum?

The matter of the bus crashing into the public house is also running on a thread on the "Other Transport" forum, with a picture.

But this thread is more fun :). Also, the article in this thread actually gets the location right, the MSN article, even through you can see Fairfeild St and Garnaby Row street signs in the photos, insists it's Witworth St.

How much damage was done to the pub itself? I occasionally used to drink in there after a hard day at work on a Friday, so I hope it's not too badly messed up!

I've no issue with the driver fancying a pint after work, but he could at least have left the bus outside.

Theres a massive crack up the front wall so no doubt Keith (who's been robbing me for £3.70 for a pint of Bitburg in there for the last 4 years) will be taking Stagecoach to the cleaners on this one bless 'im.

The window frame looked loose and I think the missing hanging baskets may have landed in Canada. Probably much worse than it looks, structurally.

Hard to say just how bad the damage is, but I'd imagine its repairable.

I hope so, but the new stuff is just so damn flimsy, all fibreglass and no trousers. If it's stoved in the whole nearside front I reckon it's a gonner :|
