Why is the application so much simpler/shorter (at least on the surface) than First?

I presume when it asks what your development areas are this is meaning something you are working on to improve? Have I read correctly?

Thanks. I only skim read the application- will apply properly later.

I presume to become a depot driver the assessment etc is no different as this is implied in the brief

I aint applied as too far for me but i applied for a bus drivers vacancy with National Express Midlands and that is nearly identicle to the form i had to fill in,got to go for a written assessment day next week, got notified the day after applying.

Bit of a difference on the recruitment time scale between bus and rail companies but i suppose the rail jobs are more in demand :D

I did consider this position as it is local to me but I have two other TOC's in the pipeline that would not involve depot driving first (not as though depot driving is something I wouldn't do!).

I haven't therefore seen the application, but I would think that if it asks what your areas for development are, it in part means what might you improve upon? But if it was me answering the question I think I would phrase my response in a more aspirational way. Consider development areas as things you want to gain knowledge about or perhaps to start applying some existing skills and attributes in a tangible way. Remember if you refer to development areas too strongly as weaknesses it might be a negative, but if you can sell yourself as wishing to develop skills you already have a propensity for, that's something altogether more positive.

Good luck!

Yes I applied for the FGW turbo trainee driver too and went to see on here why I have 'awaiting short-listing', not just me then. How long does it take to shortlist?

What does CEP and DP duties mean regarding shunter driving?

To confirm Depot Drivers have to undertake the same assessments as that of train drivers?

Finally what is the definition of a safety critical job and is it subjective or fixed?

Safety Critical: Work activities which due to their nature may put at risk the health and safety of other employees.

I currently work for Network Rail and as a Coss i have to set up a safe system of work before we go on track.

When are we likely to hear back from C2C? (If at all!)

Good question... was wanting to ask is it really true applicants have taken assessments and then the vacancy has been withdrawn or even passed interviews for the vacancy to 'disappear'

Just to confirm you can pass assessment interview and medical then the vacancy gets withdrawn, happened to me.
Re: DP duties - Designated Person - this is almost the same role as a COSS (controller of site safety) where you are responsible for Safey of staff working in tbe area, setting up a Safe system of work, while controlling movements (via handsignal/radio/signal) in certain areas of the depot and responsible for taking/removing possessions e.g. Fuel roads while units are being fuelled, maintenance roads when trains are being maintained, to ensure safey of personnel working on site.

Seems harsh to go through the whole process of getting the job, for it to be taken away. What company was that for? and what was the outcome?

Is it typical to have such a gap between passing the Structured interview and attending the managers interview?
