    Avanti Standard Premium vs First

Don't agree with your third point. Avanti's Seatfrog partnership tends to result, on weekends, with the tiny first class coach containing several occupants who have paid less to upgrade than those in Standard Premium, occupy the better seats and, often, are noisier.

OHL fire Langley Junction (ECML) 17-04-25

London hotel prices are considerably cheaper over this bank holiday weekend than a typical weekend (implying lower demand), so yes. If I were on a train that is stuck for hours late into the night due to a fire, I would want to return to London, or at least be given that option. I booked a day...

OHL fire Langley Junction (ECML) 17-04-25

What on earth were they thinking putting passengers on trains that would (at best) arrive in Edinburgh at 4am, instead of booking them into London hotels? 1744943116 For passengers on the 6.30pm London to Edinburgh, now a 6am expected arrival instead of 11pm!

Can "pick up only" restrictions affect ticket validity? How?

I'm on a train from London to Bristol. The train stops at Reading. According to the timetable, this train is "pick up only" at Reading. I hold a flexible ticket from London to Reading. I intend to, and do in fact, alight at Reading. On what basis can a ticket inspector force me to excess my...

    Railcard prosecution

On what basis did rail ticket retailers disclose the OP's personal data and purchasing history to Chiltern? Article 6(1)(d) of the GDPR, which Chiltern quotes, refers to "vital interests", which is narrowly defined. Per the ICO's guidance: "vital interests are intended to cover only interests...

Delay Repay: Is it based on ticketed destination or actual destination?

I agree that court action would not be a worthwhile use of an individual's time, unless this is a recurring issue.

Delay Repay: Is it based on ticketed destination or actual destination?

Several of the case studies / examples published by the Rail Ombudsman on its own website entirely disregard relevant consumer protection legislation. They provide excellent examples of the Rail Ombudsman's shortcomings, and a valuable reminder to anyone intending to refer a complaint to the...

London NorthWestern Railway Class 350/2 withdrawal

I also go out of my way to avoid Avanti because of the ridiculously high temperatures. 25+ degrees even in winter. It's nauseating. I don't know what's wrong. I don't recall temperature being an issue under Virgin Trains, other than where the HVAC system failed completely in a carriage...

    Euston overcrowding

The "new" departure board is a massive improvement. With my poor eyesight, much easier to read than the current boards. Easier to read than the former board too, which was already easy to read.

First Class on Cross Country Regional Turbostar Routes

An ingenious way of accommodating everyone when you only have enough staff to run 1 train in 3.

Govia Thameslink first class penalty fare dispute

No sympathy with this one. First class is clearly marked on these services. It's generous as it is that first class at the rear is declassified. If first class went, all the first class seats would be replaced with standard class seats and everybody loses. The one change Thameslink could do...

Rights in the case of delay

Good luck relying on Reg 1371/2007, though. Most TOCs deny its existence or application.

Avanti being very naughty with ticket quotas again

This has been ongoing for months, from what I have seen.

    AWC Standard Premium & PRIV

Does that discretion apply equally to comping a colleague's Standard Premium upgrade and comping a group of friends travelling to a game? That would be a wide discretion. Or is there a distinction? If there is, do you know where it is documented?
