    Lumo - Qualified Driver - Newcastle (17/01/24)

I'm not sure why people are so against lodges....We lodged at Freightliner Intermodal for over 20 years, sometimes 2 a week. We did get payments from them, either 3 or or 5 hours pay with everything paid for..They were the best days of my life.....As much as I love my family, I had no school...

    Cross Country qualified driver vacancies.

Unlimited movement, sod that.....So if your 14:00 spare, you could be Am's or nights, I take it.......They must have been clapping their hands, XC management, when ASLEF sold that off!!!!

    Post pass out mistakes

As someone else said, cab doors, if they work off the interlock....I've walked the length of the platform and gone bollxcks and our trains are quite long, also leaving your key in the desk!!!!....If you drive super dupa trains with just one power and brake handle, make sure you don't knock it...

Best/worst mess facilities across the network

Before moving to a TOC, i was at Intermodal so as the above mentions mess room atmosphere, here goes. Doncaster platform 3, I felt like a leper, no-one said hello, and just looked at you as you walked in. XC Leicester, I was told it was a XC kettle...lol Lincoln depot..... I could use their...

Freightliner - Trainee Train Driver - Various Locations (04/04/23)

Freightliner have frozen all training at Intermodal due to the downturn of traffic.....It was also mentioned in the ASLEF journal....Talking to the guys, there hoping that traffic will start picking up in the future. No doubt it will. Though I don't think it affects HH, it may be the case when...

"Pay back" clauses for train drivers

It's not all about the money......I was on the freight for over 3 decades, moving to intermodal in 1996 from RFD, but I'm now at a TOC and have been for quite a while now. Personally GBRF and HH was not for me, I would rather something stable like Intermodal which runs like a TOC really. Over...

    Freightliner Pension

I don't know how pensions work, but if I can remember if you were a driver at Freightliner when I was there, you couldn't go pass 65 as a driver....Maybe things have changed. Anyway...I'm ex BR so I come under Schedule 8, but I can give you some idea for the drivers that have a retire age of 62...

Basic qualified train driver salaries and basic T&c’s

I'm the same as you and actually prefer Sundays inside, with the 4 day working week...Plus it's all pensionable......As you say, it's extra days you have to come in for.

    EMR - Pension clarity

As mentioned above, yes the railway pension is very good, though maybe a bit volatile under the current climate., but if you have 22 years, I wouldn't worry...... I come under the old BR pension scheme and mine is totally different to yours. When it comes to Brass, Ive been in it for 38 years...

    EMR - Pension clarity

I'm not at EMT either, but the trainees that come into my company get put into another pension first called "Industry-Wide Defined Contribution Section" after 2 years they can move into the DB one. As your coming in as a depot driver and not a trainee driver, you could come under the DB...

    Best union for drivers

Like ive said, it's people choice...The driver above wasn't happy what the union done and the union accepted the pay deal, so they came out of the union, but you have to look at the bigger picture. When I was on the freight also being LDC and other roles within my Branch, we felt we were...

    Best union for drivers

Whilst I do agree with you with "your job is always at risk", trainees do have a choice at the end of the day, if they what to join or not.......I'm not forcing them to join with the words of "you will be out the door if you **** up" but with todays micro management, who knows, its better than...

    Best union for drivers

I'm a LDC rep for my depot (ASLEF).....We have a good sort of relationship with my company.....Most problems are sorted out at local level and you will be surprised what we can achieve for drivers, so yes it's worth joining. Anyone say it's an expensive diary are not worth the time of day, and...
