    The Fell locomotive film.

TVs were very few and far between in 1952, so cinema is more likely for most people to see it. Doesn't follow that it was widely distributed, though, as it is very much a special interest item. May possibly just have been made available in the East Midlands only, as being of local interest.

    The Fell locomotive film.

According to Wikipedia, withdrawn 15 October 1958, scrapped 1960 I never saw it again after I started at Derby in late 1957.

    The Fell locomotive film.

I remember seeing it in service one evening on the Derby - Manchester line, early 1950s. Treated very much as an out-of-the-ordinary occasion, though on a stopping passenger train.

    Midland Railway 175th exhibition

It is the 175th anniversary of the formation of the Midland Railway on 10th May. Accordingly, the Midland Railway Society will be holding an exhibition in Derby that weekend, notably in the Midland Railway Hotel, one of the first railway hotels in the country, to provide more information about...

Future service opportunities for Scotrail post 2018

Mostly smaller stations on the Fife route, even Kirkcaldy does not seem to produce much N/B traffic for Perth and beyond, arguably. Anyway, that would be catered for by the existing Edinburgh - Perth local service, even if that dropped say to two-hourly. Stirling does have through services to...

Future service opportunities for Scotrail post 2018

That is an entirely valid point, but there is a wider aspect. If that 10 min delay occurs on a N/B service, on a single line that would often cause the next S/B service to be 25 minutes late. Even allowing for some time recovery, it could well be 20 late leaving Perth. Not too much of a problem...

Future service opportunities for Scotrail post 2018

I understand where you are coming from, but there will be fewer local services anyway - Edinburgh-Dunblane will be electrified in a couple of years. In any case, it would not be a good idea to put the newly-modified HSTs onto local services that don't need that configuration. Much better to...

    Scottish HSTs

Various things have been stated "officially" from time to time, like Inverness - Perth hourly then extended alternately Glasgow/Edinburgh, with accelerated services. Now we have many additional services planned for by class 170 retentions, Glasgow - Dundee (hourly?) semi-fasts etc. All this will...

    Scottish HSTs

Are there yet any notional timetables / diagrams for the HSTs coming to Scotland in 2018/19? I'm thinking of the equivalents to those produced for the GWML IEP services. Thanks much.

Longest non stop run in the UK? (and Europe if anyone knows)

It certainly would have been scheduled, in that very considerable organisation of the attempt took place, particularly of the Edinburgh run. Undoubtedly a Special Traffic Notice would have been required, since the Edinburgh train was running additionally from Euston to Carstairs. Whether that...

Longest non stop run in the UK? (and Europe if anyone knows)

There was one scheduled non-stop London - Glasgow train, and you have to go back a very long time, AND it was steam-hauled! The LMS ran it in April 1928, using a Royal Scot loco, appropriate enough for the 'Royal Scot' train. The occasion was to get a bit of publicity on the day before the...
