Maidenhead Main Line Platform 2/3 edge barriers

It was installed in the last few months. There's also one in Slough, installed at a similar sort of time. Before last year's GWR timetable change there would have been quite a few fast services at peak times using those platforms but now they generally don't, which is probably why they only got...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

There is major engineering work between Paddington and Maidenhead over bank holiday weekend: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/currentAndFuture.aspx?TravelDate=05%2F05%2F2018&TOC=gw. Does anyone know what this is for? Could it be bringing the auto-transformer system into use...

The future of Barlaston / Norton Bridge / Wedgwood railway stations.

It looks like http://orr.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/25875/norton-bridge-closure-ratification-notice.pdf is the ORR's ratification: The official closure date is presumably 23rd November therefore.

The Mains have wires, at least for the section I can see from the road. (Quite a bit is only visible from a train but I assume the whole gap has been wired on these lines.) The Reliefs both still need wires in this gap.

The Up Main was wired around MP25 (west Maidenhead) overnight.

The first wires are now up in the MP25 gap. The Down Main now has catenary and contact wires, plus a return wire (is that right?). I can't see if it goes all the way through the gap but hopefully someone can confirm soon.

The SPS is up in the MP25 gap, and has been for several months. It just needs aligning and wiring. It seems logical for this to be done only shortly before energisation. Is there a similar gap between the Reading station wiring and the live section further west?

    Great Western Electrification Progress

RTT seems to show what's happening quite well: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/EAL/2016/12/29/1613?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt It looks like local trains and Oxford fasts are terminating in P2 whilst longer-distance HSTs are terminating in P4, presumably for the reasons you...

A picture on Twitter shows wires going up on platform 5 at Maidenhead: https://twitter.com/frankmichin125/status/800315987933413376

    Great Western Electrification Progress

I noticed this morning a couple of masts and cantilevers up over the relief lines about half a mile west of Maidenhead station which weren't there on Thursday. There are probably more but I could only see a small section of the line. Steady progress it seems!

I noticed that masts and cantilevers were up through Taplow station when I drove past earlier this week. Has anyone been to Slough recently to see if there's been any progress there?

Thanks! Great to see some masts within the station at last! I wonder if anything has happened in the other nearby stations.

Good pictures. Thank you. I still don't understand why there is no evidence at all of electrification work through the station itself - it seems like this will hold up the wiring when they get that far.

    Great Western Electrification Progress

On Saturday I attempted to count the number of masts and bases on a trip from Maidenhead to Paddington (well, I stopped at Airport Junction). I counted the southern side of the tracks, so the other side to 76020's post on the 18th. From Maidenhead to Slough I reckoned that about 65% of...

London to Oxford: is Chiltern Mainline an option?

FGW services looked pretty broken today. I have no idea how many people will try to go from Marylebone but I suggest using that route anyway, and allowing plenty of time. They should accept pre-booked FGW tickets to Oxford according to...
