    ZEBRA 2 Discussion

It's not in London, therefore it's rural.

A Cambridge tube coach, is there a case for it?

It may be worth noting that the Oxford Tube calls in at Hillingdon Tube station on its way into and out of London thus allowing connections to the Tube network without having to travel into central London. I have used the Oxford Tube and the former Oxford Bus Company equivalent to travel between...

Trivia: Rare and unusual bus and coach types

This thread has certainly thrown up a wide variety of odd and unusual buses but there are a few more that I can add to the list. The attached photos are all mine. Would I be right in thinking that welfare buses and novelty buses fall outside the scope of this thread? Metro Scania demonstrator...

Layout of seats and timetable cases in bus shelters

@geoffk, the shelter is on Russell Way between KFC and Rydon Lane in Exeter.

What was your favourite bus type as a kid?

I grew up in Oxford so my favourite bus was the 1958 Park Royal bodied AEC Regent V. These were the last open platform deckers ans, along with a similar batch with Weymann bodies, were the first "tin front" and first 30ft deckers in the fleet. I think it was the tin front and the sheer size of...

Why do major European bus manufacturers still avoid the UK?

Pre metrication, the maximum height for a bus in the UK was 15 flot which is 4.572 metres. In practice most full height buses were around 14 foot 6 inches (4.42 metres). I haven’t heard of any change but, if there was, it is not likely to have been widely publicised.

    Buses Driving Through Floodwater

This link should take you to a YouTube video of a Stagecoach bus on route 380 (Axminster-Exeter) going through floodwater as the road dips under a low railway bridge near Honiton. The clip dates back 2012 so the bus is probably a Pointer Dart. The fate of the driver is unknown to me.

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Domestic circumstance mean I am rarely able to undertake epic excursions like those reported by @RELL6L and @TheGrandWazoo. However, I recently managed to grab a morning to myself during a family visit to Cambridge. This report is, therefore, limited in scope but I hope it will still be of...

Layout of seats and timetable cases in bus shelters

Like @geoffk, I am annoyed by timetables being placed behind seats in bus shelters. However that is only part of my concerns about the design and siting of bus shelters. Here is a picture of my local bus stop in Exeter. As can be seen, the shelter is placed close to the kerb with the...

How actively are electronic displays at bus stops used to provide updates?

The Stagecoach app was showing some buses as "cancelled" this afternoon in Exeter. The journeys concerned did not appear at all on the electronic departure boards in the High Street.

    Oxford Tube

It has been done before. City of Oxford's fast London-Oxford service was extended to Witney and Carterton in 1979 running hourly. This went through various changes as the Oxford-London section was increased in frequency with the Oxford-Carterton section not always keeping up. When City of...

    Stagecoach Group (Group-wide matters)

Thank you. I have tried refreshing but to no avail. Looking more closely, I find that the home page has the Stagecoach circular logo rotating endlessly in the Service Updates area so something is clearly stuck somewhere. I won't risk taking this thread off topic by getting too involved in...

Why do “both ways” stops exist?

Yes, I admit I was exaggerating a bit but surely raised kerbs must be there for a reason otherwise why go to the expense of installing them?

Why do “both ways” stops exist?

My local city to suburb route in Exeter has two "both ways" bus stops. Both are are on ordinary suburban roads with pavements on both sides and both have no properties fronting to road on the side that is unmarked. Of course there are no road markings and neither are there raised kerbs so...
