    German "General-renovation"

In an national effort the likes of which the world has never seen before and will probably never see again, the German people raised the infrastructure in the five new states, which were scarred by 40 years of communism, not just to the level of the old Federal Republic, but even above it! Cab...

Extreme weather in Germany, Poland, Austria, Czechia - Travel Disruptions Expected - and cancelled nightjet question

According to bahn.de the mentioned RJX runs from Passau only, non stop to Munich, nearly impossible... I guess DB didn't upload the new ÖBB schedule, valid from 10.10, when they reopen the second track of the old West-line.

Extreme weather in Germany, Poland, Austria, Czechia - Travel Disruptions Expected - and cancelled nightjet question

Where do you have the information from with Passau? RJX Vienna-Munich were never supposed to run via Passau... This is the valid ÖBB timetable from 10.10 on. It shows your RJX departing Vienna at 07:57 and arriving in Munich at 12:32 o'clock.

Help finding Identity of train at Heilbronn please?

TRI Train Rental, a company from Franconia, running replacement services on MEX 12 Stuttgart-Tübingen for SWEG. I'm not sure but I guess it has to do with the "Digital Knot" Stuttgart, DB and SWEG have reduced train avaliabitly because of ETCS upgrades of their fleet....

Driver/Guard Bells/Buzzers/Beepers used on trains in other countries.

One of the three guards is the boss (Zugchef) of the other two, so when the doors the two guards are responsible for are closed correctly, they wave a red baton towards the Zugchef, who, after his door is also closed correctly, informs the driver via his phone, that the train is ready to depart.

YOUR OPINION: What's your ranking of continental European train operators and why?

Dutch NS announced a ticket hike of 8,7% plus inflation today... So a 2h trip from Amsterdam to beautiful Groningen, what is already 30€ today, would set you back 33€ plus 1€ for the chip card then...o_O But just in case there is no incident in Meppel, what would cut of two provinces...

YOUR OPINION: What's your ranking of continental European train operators and why?

19€ Sparpreis for IC(E)s if you book in advance, 49€ Deutschlandticket per month for ALL public transport, exceptional customer rights with full flexibility if a train in more than 20' delayed, one of the highest network coverages in the world, despite an investment-backlog of hundreds of...

    German Rail in decline ?

35h week from 2029 on for the drivers, sounds like a massive success for GDL and Weselsky!

    Köln Hbf

Hohenzollern bridge is in my opinion the biggest bottleneck in the German network. It has six tracks only, two of them are for S-Bahns only, so local and longdistance services can use four tracks only to serve a city with more then 1m inhabitants. Worst part is nearly all ICEs (except the ones...

100%, it is forbidden under German labour law, so called "Friedenspflicht" (peace-obligation), a duty not to engage in industrial action during the negotiations. The new negotiations between DB and the GDL will beginn on 05.02., and if they fail, GDL is aloud to strike again from 04.03., since...

Which European country has the best railways?

Best railways in Europe, and maybe worldwide, is, hands down, Germany! :) We have a continuous high speed network between the mayor cities (from 2030 2tph) on the on hand an on the other hand Takt-scheduling for local trains, it is very cheap if you book a couple of days in advance (Sparpreis)...
