The key question about the coffin stock now being used will be whether punters are happy riding a steam train which they can't hear from their seat. Aircon means no open windows means minimal chuff chuff chuff sounds - isn't that a key part of what they want?
As a DMU deviant I would much...
Related to this project is the growing campaign to reopen the railway to Fraserburgh and Peterhead. Additional capacity is needed immediately north of Aberdeen station and there are a couple of options to be able to add a 2nd track in through the tunnels.
So if I am reading this right, Kings Cross was shut as normal overnight. Despite 5 heavily delayed trains arriving into it. Multiple sources (with pictures) reporting being locked into the station on arrival. Then thrown out by security to find nothing available. No taxis, no staff etc.
Some horrifying stories on Twitter. Haven’t heard from my boss but at least his train made it to York - at 03:27.
One of the southbound trains was terminated at Retford gone 1am. Into sub-zero temperatures where they had to wait for (reportedly) half an hour for the train behind. As everything...
The remaining elephant is Euston. This only gets built with private sector money, so lets expect that to be massively paired back as well. I don't think 400m trains are on the agenda any more...
I fly Aberdeen to London a lot - the rail option is too slow and too expensive.
Someone questioned a London - Dyce single and then fly back. Book to Aberdeen and get the bus from there - much quicker than the non-interchange at Dyce.
Fair enough. The difference in cost between Off Peak and Any Time Returns is ludicrous. I suspect because the SOR has 5 days validity for the outbound.
A little while since I have done something like this, so thought I would ask the assembled experts. High flight costs make flying to Manchester way cheaper than Birmingham for a show I am going to at the NEC. MIA to BHI tickets are valid via MAN, and I'd be landing at 07:55.
A Manchester...
If. And there was a huge amount of trust in what was written. And looking at evidence rather than faith, this government is trying to run down the railway system as a matter of policy.
Ending up with part built and pointless infrastructure is what this country excels at. As the usage of the...
I think the WCML link has gone as well. Not mentioned at all today. OOC won't have capacity to handle many terminating trains, nor will the Liz line cope with lots and lots of terminating passengers. Which all suggests Birmingham Not Interchange to London Wherethehellisthis as the only completed...
There is no point arguing about the whys and wherefores of British Rail because it is dead and gone. Same with "nationalised" vs "privatised". No passenger services were ever "privatised" - as in sold like BT or British Gas - merely a fixed term exclusive operating license owned at all times by...
The ongoing utter chaos - and we don't care approaches from various operators - is great news for the government. We know they want to cut services and costs, so what better way to do this than make the railways generally unusable...
