UK speed record for diesel trains broken in 1993 by russian locomotive

I wonder if the DMU Super Voyagers are faster than HSTs? Have they tried out its top speed at some point?

Japan has scrapped hundreds of Shinkansen in perfect condition

The Japanese must really be nuts. :) I missed that they also scrapping the 700 series (6 sets so far) besides the models mentioned in the OP. This train was produced as late as 1997 - 2006 and has a new price tag of 22 million pounds. Wow, just wow...

Most comfortable seats you have tried in a train?

Very nice, Im so envious! How do you rotate the seats (foot pedal perhaps?) and are passengers allowed to do it themselves? Does all first class seats in Shinkansen have reclining with leg rests as well?

Most comfortable seats you have tried in a train?

Have you experienced reclining seats with footrests that can be turned 180 degrees in UK?

Most comfortable seats you have tried in a train?

I guess for me it would be in our IC3 trains, although the seats could still be much better. http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/IC3 It seems that first class on some Malaysian coaches and Shinkansen trains, have super comfortable reclining seats. Some of these can even be turned 180 degrees, in...

Should passengers be allowed to sit in 1st class when standard class seating runs out

All seats should be first class seats. How hard can it be? --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Now this is what Im talking about! ...

In other words; Mission Impossible!

Maximum allowed width for trains in UK?

I wonder about the cost per km of track relaying, in order to make space for 3,4 meter wide trains? Allowing for 2 + 3 comfortable seating.

Japan has scrapped hundreds of Shinkansen in perfect condition

I reckon that the reason for scrapping the TGVs, is to replace them with double deckers for higher seating capacity, rather than them being scrap ready? The E4 series double decker is produced from 1997 - 2003, but are to be completely retired in 2016 - thats only a 13 years life span for the...

Railway museum in Mulhouse is a must see

Some of you must also have visited the national french railway museum in Mulhouse, which I did back in 2013. Its a must see for all other train nerds, and the only thing missing is a full size TGV, since they are all in use. I can highly recommend it, if you happen do be within a fair...

UK speed record for diesel trains broken in 1993 by russian locomotive

Let alone getting a pink slip through the mailbox if getting caught by their superiors... --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I belive that freight trains should be forbidden by law on high speed passenger routes, on account of reducing the speed limit and capacity both. Its...

UK speed record for diesel trains broken in 1993 by russian locomotive

Hmm if the tracks and their curve radius was prepared for 140 at that time, then why limit HSTs to only 125? Perhaps the ride gets to bumpy for the passengers at 140?

UK speed record for diesel trains broken in 1993 by russian locomotive

Thanks. So the 238 km/h record was made with trailers? It really would be fun to see how fast one or two engines can go on their own. If its not possible in UK, it should be on the TGV network...::D

UK speed record for diesel trains broken in 1993 by russian locomotive

Is it just me, or does the TEP-80 look absolutely gigantic on that video? Either the russians in front must be very small, or the locomotive is 5 - 6 meters high. Furthermore, why did they only build two of them? Perhaps only to break the record, but why not do it officialy with presense of...

UK speed record for diesel trains broken in 1993 by russian locomotive

I dont think the track was suitable for that speed in regular service, but it looks very new and smooth. Propably welded track for service speeds up to 200 km/h. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Without passengers I guess. I wonder if you can unhook the trailers from the...
