Does anyone know some dated, old interiors of trains in normal service? Do any have interiors of past operators or even from the time of British Rail? I don't mean necessarily a complete interior but it could be just carpets or seat covers.

On another note, what's the oldest livery on a train I'm he UK in normal service?
Any suggestions or ideas for some old interiors or exteriors would be very interesting to hear!

Thank you

London Midland's Class 321s retain Network South East seat covers. These are the oldest I can think of.

A handful of Northern 153s retain RRNW seat covers and a few 156s retain the RRNW wall covering. 158s seem to mostly have the glass patterns from new on the luggage racks.

The LM 150s retain the original seating layout and the centro seat covers have been there as long as I can remember (they must be really old).

At the moment the oldest livery is the GNER blue being carried by a few Class 91 locos.

When these have been repainted, I think the oldest will be the Virgin Trains livery as on the Pendolinos and Voyagers, which is from 2001 (correct me if I'm wrong on this one though).

The seat covers aren't that old, they were replaced in the 2000s (possibly when they were painted green).

The original Centro 150 seat covers were grey with small green/blue squares if I remember correctly!

Well that would fit in perfectly with the "as far back as I can remember" since I moved to Droitwich in 2000 and am not much older than that!

South West Trains and Chiltern have older liveries.

SWT oldest is the 458s, that'll be gone shortly. 450s were 2002, 455s sometime later. The 158s/159s had their door colours changed some time ago, so they're not in their original livery.

I think you may be onto a winner with Chiltern. They have been tinkered with though, the yellow/blue splashes above the doors weren't original. So it depends how pedantic we're being!

Edit: Chiltern was originally all blue doors. Some time by 2002 this had changed. So the winner may be SWT and the 458s after all.

Out of interest, at what point was the NSE-in-Stagecoach-colours temporary livery introduced by SWT? I know it died out when the last of the 455s were made red in about 2005.

The earliest a 20 sec image search will throw up for me is 1997. Matt Taylor will know I'm sure!

The Intercity Swallow still appears on some Caledonian Sleeper internal doors.

Surely the Eurostar is the oldest livery in use which dates from 1994. Have they been refurbished internally in that time?

Yes, the interior was done a few years ago. Originally the Eurostar seats were in a yellow and grey striped colour scheme!

How very 90s! I always can date coaches I travel on; grey for 1990s and Brown for 1970s and 80s!

Surely blue and green for the eighties and technicolour for the sixties and seventies (and boring pastel shades ever since ).

Isn't there a class 90 running around still in old BR railfrieght livery?

Just read this said interior not exterior, need to wake up!

Some of the 319's on FCC still have their original interior?

What about the Mk2s used on the Fife Circle LHCS?

I'm sure there was one that was a Great Western refurb, but the others seemed older. I've not been on it for quite some time, though.

I had the misfortune of travelling on 150106 the other day and the internal layout seems essentially unchanged since it was introduced in 1985!

The SWT/NSE hybrid was developed in 1996, 442402 was for quite a while the only unit in the livery as it was used to promote a 15 minute frequency on the Waterloo-Southampton route. no other 442s were painted in that livery but in late 1998 they began to appear in what is now the standard SWT livery.

The first unit I ever saw in that hybrid "Stagecoach Stripes" livery was a 455/7 at clapham Junction. Can't remember which one it was ( I have the number 5731 buzzing around in my head over this but that's probably wrong! ), but it was attracting a lot of attention on the day!
