The final timetables for December - May (though I wonder if they'll change them again like last year ;)) can now be found at http://www.fgw.co.uk/Content.aspx?id=1930

The morning CrossCountry service from Cardiff which calls all stations to Filton (not Pilning), then fast to Temple Meads does not show in the book, but does exist according to the Journey Planner.

Thanks Mojo.

Can't help but notice the first train of the day from Birmingham to the South West (0610 from Birmingham to Paignton) takes over an hour to get to Cheltenham Spa (0722)! Any ideas why this is - via Kidderminster perhaps?

Certainly is, has been for a while too ;)

Why it does this is a mystery as without this massive diversion it would allow an arrival into Exeter for 0845 ish and Paignton around 0920.

Why are they turning the Cheltenham - Bristol trains at Gloucester now? So, now there is only a 2 hourly stopping service between Cheltenham, Cam and Dursley, Yate etc. Hopefully CrossCountry will stop every other Cardiff/Nottingham train at Ashchurch to give it a useable hourly to Cheltenham/Gloucester and a two hourly service to Worcester and Birmingham. The current service is diabolical.

The current service from Ashchurch is being cut. From http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ashchurchtrains/#detail

"Ashchurch for Tewkesbury station used to have many direct train services to Birmingham, but currently, it is mainly served by a 2 - hourly service from Great Malvern & Bristol. Passengers wishing to travel to Birmingham usually have to travel south to Cheltenham Spa , change onto a northbound train, then return northwards , passing through Ashchurch without stopping. From December 2006, some direct services to and from Birmingham were reintroduced, but the new Arriva Cross Country Franchise proposes to CUT these on weekdays from 7 to 4 northbound services and from 4 (5 on Fridays) to 2 Southbound services."

ATW services extending to Cheltenham Spa could have something to do with it as well.

Shame there isn't no more VT Adelante Services from New St to Plymouth.
